I dunno...the fact that Mattel is producing this leaves this as suspect.

Update on this Pics are up from the SDCC i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=album&album=2011_San_Diego_Comic_Con%2FMattel%2FVoltron%2F&dispsize=600&start=0-------------------------------------------------------------- The Voltron collector line has been revealed at SDCC and I can tell you we are now ready to officially form Voltron! Here's the big news: For 2012, the Mattel Voltron line includes five Lions (black, green, yellow, blue, red) that form robot Voltron plus five Pilots in 3 ¾" scale (Pidge, Hunk, Lance, Allura, Keith). Staying true to the series, each release consists of a Lion and its corresponding pilot, so Keith pilots only the Black lion, Hunk pilots only the Yellow lion, etc. Collect all five Lions and you'll have everything you need to build an enormous 23" tall Voltron figure! Each Lion converts from Voltron mode to Lion mode with a one-touch transformation feature, and comes with a mouth blade weapon. The Black Lion also comes with an additional blazing sword and shield. Collect all the Pilots and each one will come with a piece that creates a Voltron Collect and Connect® ultra blazing sword! Every pilot comes with an alternate helmet head, and a key that unlocks the cockpit of their corresponding Lion and allows it to transform with one touch from Voltron mode to Lion mode. The key can also be used as a display base for the pilot figure. There's also an exclusive item available only to members of the Voltron subscription, Club Lion Force, but I can't tell you what it is until the Mattypalooza panel on Friday at SDCC. Want all the Lions, the Pilots, the 23" Voltron, the Collect and Connect ultra blazing sword and the club-exclusive? Then read on for new details on Club Lion Force! ------------------------------------------------------------- From what I understand, it seems the figures will be sold seperately from the lions? I'm really curious to see if the lions will have diecast parts. Gold

the pilots will be packaged separately from the lions, but if you have a lion force club subscription, you get both the lion and the corresponding pilot together. red lion is hitting the shelves in january.
before 2012 is out, you'll be able to complete the 2 foot voltron!
also, a sven action figure (the original blue lion pilot if memory serves) will be the club exclusive item. not sure if there will be another during the year.
from the pics, these look like souped up versions of the matchbox voltron lion release of the 1980s. hope the poseability and diecast content are OK.
but $290 for a transforming, 2-foot voltron lion complete with pilots? i think it's worth it.
hope an appropriately-scaled castle of lions will not be far off.

Transformation video and key activation gimmicks for Voltron are up.
Pixel Dan's interview with Brandon Sopinsky, more or less confirms that there's no diecast,(they're trying to minimize the weight). At 5:58-6:07

Voltron to have diecast after all? www.poeghostal.com/2011/08/ask-mattel-answers-for-mid-august-2.htmlNote question number 3. But I won't put too much stock in the QnA just yet since it was mentioned in an interview with Mattel's brandon Sopinksy that there won't be any diecast. I guess we can only be sure when the figure gets released. ;D Gold
