the more I look at it, the more I see how bandai wanted to compete with kotobukiya's Frame Arms line because of the capability to switch parts without dismantling the frame inside..

I see your point there... Frame Arms may not be as big as any Gundam series but getting a piece of that market is also a big deal sales competition wise... a trend in Japan that Bandai noticed...

I'm with you on that, but I always give any series a 50/50 chances because of my inherent curiosity over anything before giving a full verdict... Well, the mix and match idea on the Frame Arms seems to have caught their attention... it's this idea that I don't really connect with Gundam... Sousei No Aquarion, yes since they started at the idea of mix and matching 3 mechs similar to the good old Getter Robot... I wonder if Bandai even realized that Gundam Age, like any other Gundam kits, are not Japan only kits anymore... why? Because this new Age-ing (I feel old saying that) thingy chips are practically useless when most of the products connected to its primary use are going to be in Japanese and can only be found in Japan. Although this sentiment will be deemed moot if Bandai will eventually branch out their AGE merchandises in English...

now that you said that..I just remembered...gunpla builders doesn't have a wide range of models..didn't it sell?? on my records, gunpla builders took the least model released than other gundam series though it's actually a ova and not a series..oh and there's also another type of mecha that features part swapping though I forgot what that one is..been seeing it on stores recently..

Yup Gunpla Builders was just an OAV which has 3 episodes... it's mostly a mini-series to get younger audience to get into the Gunpla scene... because let's face it Most Gunpla builders are getting older.
I main Gundam in that mini-series did well that they came out with new variants... the downside is that most of the repaints are from kits that needs more attention in building than what a kid can handle if they are beginners... but that's all since there's no real news about new animes coming out other than the manga, I think...
That's the probably reason why Bandai is going into the mix and match Gundam Age type of kits...
I also mentioned Frame Arms because it was the first thing that came to mind when it comes to Plamo and Mecha... other mix and match mechas are basically toys and are not available as model kits...

and before gundam age become available..bandai already has LBX kits that also features part swapping though I really don't know what kind of game that is..I just saw it somewhere in TK megamall and it does seem to have a story behind it..

The LBX is from a new series Danball Senki which started just last March 2011, at that time I didn't know it allows parts swapping and since availability of an anime download was scarce I only managed to see the 1st episode on Youtube... Danball is nice but having seen just 1 episode I couldn't really give much judgement, but considering its popularity that Bandai keeps coming out with new products its probably one of the factors... and one more thing Danball is serialized in CoroCoro Comics so as Gundam Age so that's one tidbit of info that could link their design ideas considering both stories are handled by Level-5... Now I get the connection... Level-5 and CoroCoro probably had a deal with Sunrise which resulted to Gundam Age... Thanks for bringing up Danball... Kasmichan Anyway here are some magazine scans from Hobby Mag: gundamguy.blogspot.com/2011/06/mobile-suit-gundam-age-hg-1144-gundam.html

no prob...oh and danball is also a game on the psp..my bro saw the trailer and it's quite the same as busou shinki battle masters in most cases but the gameplay style is 100% that of gunplabuilders..though they don't ride the the suit..XD been lurking around sites getting infos on Gundam Age but so far I can't bring myself to like it...i wanna get back to gunpla soon but with the recent releases I think it'll take quite some time...got the epyon but drop the building idea when I saw the finished kit..I never would've thrown my money on the epyon and get some LBX instead..

Yup, even though Level 5 makes games for Nintendo this time however they made the game only for the PSP...
The Danball model kits are basically in their anime size or should I say actual size (1:1) sans the internal mechanical and electronic components. It may not walk or do the things it does on the anime because it's plastic but it's like having your own LBX figure to reenact scenes from the series.
Well, there's always the Unicorn mini-series...
