this may stray off the topic but i will keep it brief regarding lupin on gma. gma clearly banked on the anime's popularity but they based the story loosely on the french thief of whom the anime itself was based on. i heard a dialog in the trailer that the lupin in gma is a descendant of the french thief arsene lupin. that's as close to the anime as it gets, the fact that janno gibbs plays a bungling cop close to the anime's inspector zenigata is a ripoff.
anyway, back to gma's shaider, yeah from what the article in pep says, japan turned gma down for the rights to they are going to make some sort of "unauthorized" version, making the characters out to be descendants of shaider to make a semi-ripoff. it's a way around the rights issue and it's ticking me off.
i agree with boogie, as despiccable as it is, leave gma alone. let's not talk about bombing them. hey if gma goes down, we'll all be left with abscbn, and to me that's the worse of 2 evils. LOL

the fact that it's descendants as in plural makes me think they are going to add sentai elements in it. still, i think they should just scrap it, considering they were already turned down. the fact that they are working their way around it will make it seem like a ripoff even more. the japanese turned gma down for a reason. they let the americans use shaider for vr troopers, which means they WOULD sell the rights to the characters if they are okay with what the buyer is going to do with it. the fact that gma was turned down should have compelled them to stay away from it as a matter of simple courtesy.

i was talking about this with a friend of mine the other day and we were wondering how the MONSTERS were going to look like. i am sure that the local shaider has a mid-range budget, they aren't going to spend on this like they do on one of richard guttierez' fantaseryes, so how will the monsters end up looking? are they all going to look like YOSI KADIRI?
another thing that i am doubtful about is that they can get good locations to shoot this, meaning, we can expect a lot of repetitive locations and empty lots. i doubt gma is going to get permission from famous locations like stadiums and beaches to shoot battle scenes, much like the battle scenes seen in the original shaider or in the new masked rider series.
whenever i go to makati, i see the front of the manila peninsula with the waterfalls and always envision shaider standing and posing at the top. i doubt gma can even get permission for that.
im not saying all this to downplay the show, it's just a realistic look.
regarding the combat suit, if gma bought the rights, it's possible that that the costume could come from japan. toei lends costumes regularly even just for toy promotions, like the faiz costume. BUT if GMA bought the rights from TSP, then they are totally on their own...

like i said, the masses dont care what the networks show, it's who they show it with.
regarding richard gutierrez, my suspicion is gma has no choice but to keep giving him shows. i think once they shelf him, his crazy mother will threaten to make him an ABSCBN talent. that mother of his has no loyalty! she once asked gma news NOT to feature her tax evasion case. but since GMA news isn't biased, they chose to do it anyway. as a form of retaliation, captain barbell [richard] was a no-show in a provincial GMA event.

dude it's safe to say that GMA didn't have the upscale market [ppl like you and me and most of the ppl in this board] in mind when they decided to do this. both GMA and ABSCBN openly admit that they are no longer targetting the upscale market. their target market is the masses and the masses love this kind of crap. in fact, the masses are the target market of the original shaider, which paved the way for everything becoming tagalized.
another thing, "floating" shows depending on the popularity of the stars is common even in hollywood. there are lots of shows in the us that got cancelled just coz the producers couldnt afford the stars, and sometimes adusting the story to add a new star to the cast is also done. i can name a bunch of foreign shows which they adjusted the story to fit a new cast member or to get rid of one that wants out.

desperate? how so? i thjink it's good, at least they actually bought the rights to do shaider, unlike lupin, when they just used the name and is banking on the anime's popularity. you have to admit, they beat ABSCBN to this idea again, considering ABSCBN had was the last one with rights to shaider.
i think they realized that since the show is THAT old and that they are showing it in tagalog anyway, they might as well make their own. come on, shaider is as filipino as voltes v. GMA could be trying to tap shaider's older fans.
if it flops, then they can junk the concept. if the viewers like it, then they still have kamen rider and sentai. it's a win-win situation for them.
besides, shaider is over 20 years old. i doubt they can do wrong, they can just match the sets and effects, they dont have to use CG, they can just make it look like the shaider of 20 years ago.
i wonder if they are going to do the "monster of the week" thing, coz if this is a fantaserye, it's going to air everyday. i think it's going to be stupid if they follow the shaider formula, each day he will be solving a new plot by fuuma and it is going to end the same way everyday?!
is he going to drive a blue suzuki 4WD too? i wonder who they are getting to play annie?

i made a mistake when i posted this.
they are NOT going to air the show again.
GMA is producing a LOCAL VERSION OF SHAIDER.
MARKY CIELO will be playing SHAIDER in the local version.
this is not a ripoff or some sort of homage like LUPIN. i hear GMA really bought the rights to SHAIDER.
this i guess qualifies as GMA's bid. PINOY TOKUSATSU.

yeah it's definitely not us [TSP] who got kuuga.
kuuga was dubbed in tagalog by PICASSO studios but they only did the pilot. usually, if only the pilot is dubbed, then it is only going to be used to pitch the series to a network. the pilot episode of kuuga was dubbed years ago during the same time TSP was dubbing KR Ryuuki.

"blazing teens", a live action asian kid's show [not sure if it is japanese] about yo-yo's, has started airing since yesterday on GMA, occupying the 9AM time slot. MASKED RIDER BLADE has been moved to 9:30AM.

Kamen Rider Blade will be aired also on Cartoon Network starting June 2,weekends 8:30 a.m and replays at 7:30 p.m....That one is one english dubs(made in Singapore....).. i just saw this version this morning. i dont like it, the same way i dont like the gransazer version on cartoon network or any of the singapore english dubs on animax. i really cant put my finger on what exactly i dont like but i find those voices annoying. the dialog [lines] also dont sound natural, the translation is too direct or literal. they even dubbed the computer voices. it fits in well with the shows shown on CN though, since the dubbing sounds the same with mirmo de pon, probably also dubbed in singapore. kids will eat it up. one thing that makes this better than the GMA version though, is that it isnt as heavily edited. but that is all... i still foud myself waiting for the GMA one, thank god it airs right after at 9am.

this morning's episode is the one where kiryuu makes his first appearance. he is tachibana's sempai and was the one initially chosen to be garren but he lost his hand in an accident while garren was in the development stage. kiryuu became a vigilante who goes after criminals [he listens to a police scanner] and kills them by electrocuting them.
what i dont get is why GMA bothered to edit the scene where kiryuu electrocuted the criminal to death. all i saw was kiryuu pushed the criminal against the wall, then CUT, then the next thing i saw was the criminal was already dead on the ground. are scenes like this too violent for TV now?

i watched the series until the end yesterday and i must say, the underlying story and ending was very satisfying. i enjoyed the biblical and theological implications. did anyone else notice this?
if they make more kamen rider like this, i dont mind if it's getting formulaic, you know what i mean, the rider is always "fighting fate", and the rider system is always being used to as a tool against the "grand scheme". it's been like this for ryuki, faiz and blade. also, the chaos that the rider spends the whole series fixing is caused by someone who is trying to bring back the dead [usually a loved one] and they end up opening a pandora's box... heck even in HEROES they have something like that [professor suresh]
i didnt like garren's jack form, too much theatrics considering he is just going to jump up and shoot from a distance.
did anyone notice that when the 13 cards fuse with blade for the king form, the effect is like saint seiya and the clothes armor merging with his body?

yeah bankee is the new distributor of mask rider toys so the sm toystores and even toys r us are selling the complete line of blade henshin devices, i also saw their rouzers, including wild chalice and the attachment for fusion jack. i got the chalice arrow for my nephew today.
the toy itself was quite expensive, P1800! obviously not something a normal kid can afford... this is why when a fan says the local networks should show japanese sentai to boost toy sales, i think it's ridiculous. even if kids get to watch sentai on tv, it wont change the fact that these toys are too expensive.
BTW the toy of the chalice arrow is incomplete, you still have to buy the henshin belt coz the buckle is a part of the main body of the arrow...
watch out for the hilarious 2 part comedy episode, episodes 29-30! chalice loses his memory and switches places with ryou mikami, a dead ringer for hajime. ryou is a cowardly takoyaki chef who is tired of his life, his dad is pressuring him to take over the takoyaki business and his girlfriend michi is a strong-willed woman who pushes him around.
episode 30 is also where garren gets his jack form!
