tha'ts coz most videogames backl then can be beaten/finished in less than half an hour. when those extremely long RPG's arrived, that was when gamers spent days on one game alone and even held off going to the bathroom. also when the console memory card came to be, a game lasted more than just one sitting coz you can save the game and resume at another time. back during the SNES days, all you had was the cartridge and you had to beat the game otherwise turn it off and start over.

i remember when we were still kids and whenever it was someone's birthday, on sunday we would have an afternoon party. the whole family would be there playing party games like pin the tail on the donkey, basagan ng palayok , and of course, bingo. i use to play chess a lot during free periods in high school. there's this board game we play at the office. you get clues and you are supposed to come up with songs that pertain to the clue. it could be a word like "love", then you would have to sing a song with the word "love" in it, or a clue like "country", and you would have to sing a song with a country mentioned in the lyrics. it was fun coz you would be laughing when someone sings a tune that you havent heard in a long time, or you would laugh when they sing an oldie coz it shows how old they are. heheh man, those were the days. how simple life is. too bad we got dominated by technology esp online gaming. hehehe. ;D
back in the 80's we used to play Millionaires, Games of the General, Battleship, Cluedo, Pictionary, Scrabbles, Life, MAD and ofcourse, Monopoly.
and yes, it's sad that no one plays board games anymore. what more playing 'tumbang preso', cops & robbers, habulan, sipa, etc?
kids these days are so into computers, online gaming and playstations. i remember one weekend, i said to my kid cousins that they should atleast go out and play. even ride the bicycle, and not spend the whole weekend in front of the TV playing playstation. ;D

one of the arcade games i really miss is the g i joe shooter. you play as either roadblock, scarlett, snake eyes or duke and you just run forward with a minigun [the big machine gun that the terminator had in t2] and you just blow up everything!

super street fighter 2 turbo [first sf game with super combos and akuma]
final fight, warriors of fate, cadillacs and dinosaurs, aliens vs predator, punisher [capcom side-scrolling fighting games]
i still play SSF2turbo as part of the street fighter anniversary collection on my ps2. i hated it when it came out on the 3DO!
i still play the final fight series and rushing beat series on my super famicom. final fight one for the game boy advance is still the best home version of final fight though. it even includes the sf alpha version of guy and cody!
gradius has to be the best shooter, but i miss this one called "gunhed" for the pc engine.
i also love this 2 player soldier game for the famicom called Guerilla War, it's by SNK and you eith er play as che guevarra or fidel castro.
does anyone remember ikari warriors and prisoner of war for the famicom? the characters in these 2 games eventually became ralf, clark and jeidern in the king of fighters games.

golden axe came out for the NES!? i thought it was a SEGA game. i first played it on the SEGA megadrive then eventually i found it on the older SEGA consoles. there is a ps2 version but it was 3d. the game still ruled though. golden axe and the best two player (imo) game for the NES: balloon fight ;D plus sonic, and ninja turtles games. anyone play classic point and click adventures for the pc like Day of the Tentacle?

yeah it did. actually we used a 25 centavo coin. however the risk is if you keep it in there too long, it shorts out your famicom and busts it. we busted 2 famicoms here to make that stupid trick work. eventually we bought a joystick for the port, just hold up on player 1 and down on the joystick, press start and the stage select will appear just the same. on a side note: did that "point-a-fork-at-the-controller-slot" trick cheat on the old nes STAR WARS game really work?!

"local arcade rules"? that's new to me. you mean some arcades enforce mercy rounds!? warchimedes: mercy rounds are totally up to the person or local arcade rules. but what pissed me off is people tend to force you to give mercy rounds.

sorry for the stupid question, but what does that tape mean? does it mean the guy put the tape on the slot to make others think it's busted and therefore he can play unchallenged? yep, player 2 has a tape on the insert coin thingy. so I decided to wait the guy to finish, when I sat down, that same guy took of the tape and beated me. as my friends say, baek's moves are quite linear too.

just my opinioni here... if your girlfriend isnt a videogame player, i find it dumb to take her to the arcade and make her stand there for an hour while i play against other guys. i am sure there are exceptions, but what makes these guys think their girlfriends care if they got their butts kicked in a videogame? i have never gotten into a real fight over a game of tekken or street fighter but i have heard of numerous incidents from friends who have been physically assaulted by sore losers whom they beat in the arcades. what the heck is up with that?! i myself am pretty serious when i am playing against somebody, i try to concentrate and i dont "play around", but i dont raise hell when i lose. *doh!* didnt see the location under your avatar... SM most of the time.. the only time i go to ayala and play is to gold farm on the koreans there with my datacard heheh. almost K.O.ed outside?! how?! some do take the game too seriously... you'll find me playing saturdays or sundays in Bibo. not to brag but Im the only full time lili player in the arcade.

personally, i dont give mercy rounds unless the opponent asks for it. but sometimes i dont give them even if they ask for it coz i am afraid of getting hustled [they intentionally lose the first round to study your moves, ask for the mercy round to even the score then kick your butt on the 3rd round]. personally again, i dont like being given mercy rounds coz i find it insulting. if you can kick my butt, then by all means, kick it! giving me a mercy round is insulting, it's like telling me that you can beat me if you really wanted to, but you are holding back so i would last longer on the machine. i've been playing fighting games in the arcade since the street fighter 2 days in circus magic kingdom in robinsons galleria. my friend and i would spend every friday afternoon there [high school is half day on fridays] and we would play against others until the mall closed... those were memorable days. but i dont play tekken in the arcades. i only play it on the ps2. i have been playing tekken since tekken 1 came out for the ps and have been playing it ever since on the consoles. this may sound wimpy, but i grew accustomed to playing it on the ps controller, with the shortcuts on the buttons on top. it makes the linkers easier to perform. thanks to whoever started this thread. it is quite an entertaining read and i have been addicted to watching the matches uploaded on youtube. you guys are great! maldito: hmm.. i wonder.. did you give mercy rounds or went all out on him? some people think its a written rule to give mercy rounds and gets angry if not given any. When we play with the regulars, we dont give mercy rounds anymore unless its with noobs or play for fun. Standard rules apply. Code of ethics na nating mga tekkenista yung giving mercy rounds, i apply this rule to both noobs and experienced players. Maybe that guy just got pissed bcoz he's butt got kicked in front of her GF. Grabe na tekken ngayon. Advance na maxado yung moves and gameplay. Btw, my last tekken was tekken tag. ;D

i couldnt believe it either, reports said steroids screwed up his mind and he did it, then he killed himself when he sobered up and found out what he did.
sensational sherri also passed away recently.
vince came out and willingly broket out of the script [in the current story of the WWE, vince staged his death] and he decided to stop it since staging his death amidst real deaths in the industry would be grossly inappropriate.

SPOILER
hornswoggle is vince's bastard son. he is the midget that helps out finlay.
it was supposed to be mr. kennedy but they had to adjust the story coz he got suspended.
i dont know about you guys but i am beginning to find the WWE storylines tasteless again. it reminds me of that time when they had that muhammad hassan character fueling the anti-muslim thing because of 9/11. these kinds of stories really turn me off.

i wish edu manzano, the OMB and the local cops were more like these guys: www.grayzone.com/usabusts.htmin the us, even the small time sellers are nabbed. over here, the OMB has to pick their battles coz they dont have the resources or manpower or are simply on the take. last friday, the OMB caught a pirated DVD manufacturer REDHANDED making pirated DVDS with an industrial machine but the OMB didn't bust the korean or even file a case. i wonder why...

these are the same reasons my friends give me. sadly, a lot of it are true. however, i don't believe that more ppl will be buying originals if the economy improves. what's happening now with piracy being rampant and the law being generally helpless in protecting copyright is that the public is becoming "manhid" or are getting used to piracy like it isn't illegal. pldt advertises its dsl with a marketing gimmick that says you can download mp3's FOR FREE. they don't say that doing so is illegal. it indirectly tells the public that it's okay. it's the same problem the MMDA is having with undisciplined pedestrians and motorists - they are trying new ideas to make ppl obey the law coz for the longest time, ppl have gotten used to getting away with breaking it. if you're used to buying pirated dvds for P60, why would you buy originals even if you had the money? we have this nasty habit of always wanting a better deal. we love it when we do something bad and get away with it. another example of this problem is downloading music/mp3's. a few months ago, SONY had a cellphone store named WELLCOM raided for offering services such as downloading mp3's into customer's cellphones. while i do acknowledge the fact that sony is protecting the intellectual property of its musical talent, they are failing to solve the real problem. the real problem is that there is no real legal way to acquire mp3's. with mp3 players flooding the local market, mp3-capable cellphones, dvd players and computers that all play mp3's, where am i supposed to go to get mp3's legally? it's a no-brainer that most will just download it or acquire it illegally. sony has done nothing [or not much] to address this demand. until they do, ppl who want mp3's will be acquiring it illegally, and by the time sony does something about it, the ppl will have already been used to stealing it. There's really no justifying Piracy its really really bad just image your an artist and someone copied your work -- I'll be pissed completely but I guess the right question would be "How come most people buy pirated DVDs? (here in the Philippines)" I've asked several friends and acquintances and here are some of their replies: 1. Can't afford it. (We may have one of the cheapest DVD/CDs here but the minimum wage is P350 do the math) 2. Practicality. (Why spend so much on something you'll probably watch 2 or 3 times? those DVDs would just pick up dust on my shelf plus it's not great a movie but I still want to watch it.) 3. The "Excellent" Warranty of pirated DVDs (does it have a problem? just bring it back and I'll replace it immediately no paperworks) 4. Even more bang for your buck. (hey, you can get it cheaper by not having to buy the plastic casing, P10 off easily plus your shelf could accommodate more DVDs!) Let's just hope the economy gets better for all of us so most people can afford the real deal. As Gene Simmons would say, "Money is not the root of all evil.... lack of money is."
