Hoo boy... some bad news for Joe 25th Anniversary collectors. Sept 2007 JoeCon Premiums
As in past years, there are two different outstanding JoeCon sets that every G.I. Joe collector will want to add to their collection. Once again, the club has worked very hard to bring you only the highest quality and most innovative sets possible!
The 25th Anniversary 3 3/4” set is entitled Tanks for the Memories. COBRA spies have infiltrated the United States Government, and acquired the location and inventory records for a Top Secret weapons storage facility hidden in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The U.S. Military has been stockpiling a weapons cache there since WWII, and has recently added large amounts of chemical weapons! COBRA COMMANDER has the perfect plan to steal these supplies for his own evil schemes, using prototype tanks based on stolen G.I. JOE vehicle specifications, and an elite squad of COBRA Shock Troops specifically chosen to guarantee the success of the retrieval mission.
Meanwhile, at Fort Carson Colorado, a G.I. JOE squad is conducting cold-weather training. When the urgent radio message comes in from General Hawk, this training (designed for the team’s “old school” members that don’t get into the field too often) becomes more than an exercise. COBRA has launched a surprise attack on the Rocky Mountain chemical weapons storage facility. This crew of experienced G.I. Joe veterans is the only hope of stopping them from releasing havoc on the world. Suddenly these routine maneuvers become a matter of survival of the fittest! When these warriors collide, who will win this epic tank battle...?
So, to recap this outstanding set, you get fifteen figures with weapons and accessories consisting of: Sgt. Clutch, Doc (female), Sgt. Flash, Grunt, Rock ‘N Roll, Sparks, Sgt. Zap, Lt. Claymore, COBRA Officer (female) & COBRA Trooper (female). This set comes in the same style illustrated box as the past years’ sets. We are excited to announce that the filecard art was drawn by Herb Trimpe of Marvel Comics G.I. JOE issue #1 fame! Don’t wait to place your order. This set is limited to only 750 editions.* www.mastercollector.com/neat/gijoe/atlanta/joe07brochure.cfmIf things get as wild as the recent Transformers Botcon Classics "Games of Deception" boxset, expect this 15 figure set to reach as high as $600 on the secondary market! The selling price of the set at the JoeCon is already at $318. Gold

expensive collectors editions are really depressing... anyways, finally, they're here: the first wave of the 25th anniversary GI Joe action figure collection. just got them from bigbadtoystore.com yesterday (note: sorry for the poor pics. took them in the office during lunch break, and i was in a hurry) first, the Joes - the packaging is in the shape of a giant, chrome GI Joe logo with a drawing of Duke. The star on the logo has a button underneath that activates a short clip of the vintage GI Joe cartoon theme song ("He'll fight for freedom wherever there's trouble...GI Joe is there...") inside, the first five Joes are packaged in action poses, with their main accessories in hand and additional weapons beside them. in the middle is a plastic replica of the GI Joe logo which also doubles as the "music box" that plays the clip of the cartoon theme great artwork (a homage to the vintage line), but some of the characters are not labeled as they would have been on the vintage packaging. notice that duke is labeled "airborne infantryman" instead of "first sergeant"; scarlett is "intelligence" instead of "counter-intelligence"; snake eyes is "infantryman" instead of "commando"; and gung-ho is "recondo" instead of "marine". a closer look at the figures. excellent and more realistic sculpt, and looks to be as poseable as the bigger marvel legends figures (will check when i get them out of the packaging). they also come with their pre-cut file cards (as far as i can see, duke's card is an exact replica of the vintage 80s one) and individual battle stands with the Gi joe logo and their code names painted on one side. the back of the box is a collage of vintage Joe artwork, with a short text on the 25th anniversary line. on a Joe box, there is a picture of the mauler mbt toy near the text. you will notice that on the Cobra box, a picture of a rattler toy replaced the mauler. now, for the Cobra team - same chrome box in the shape of the GI Joe logo, but with Cobra Commander instead of Duke on the front. also notice the Cobra Logo on the lower right hand side. inside, Cobra figures are packaged in action poses, with Storm Shadow taking prominence (of course) overall, i'm impressed with the packaging, the sculpts, and the accesories. i like the fact that the figures have built-in holsters for the extra weapons and some of them (Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, in particular) have removeable bandoliers. duke even has binoculars (though without the strap). of course, the set has the best looking scarlett (with long pony tail to boot) and destro ever! for me the jury is still out on whether the vintage baroness trumps theone in this set.

looking at the new baroness figure more closely, i'm inclined to agree with you, perry.
the one advantage of the new baroness figure is that its proportions are more "lady-like", and it even has high heels on its boots ;D
