ok. nabuo na rin finally itong sub-boards FAQs natin. ;D
share ko lang itong experience ko with cheap spray can paints. if you're tight on a budget, this is the solution. the ones in hardware stores. Pylox, RJ, Bossny, Nikko, etc. most of them are acrylic lacquer. never tried enamel spray paints. not sure, if i need to prime it bago gamitin yun. well, some uses primer pa rin naman whether in lacquer or in enamel. the thing with this spray can paints, hindi kontrolado ang paggamit. there's some times na malakas ang buga. minsan, nagba-blot. i guess, depends na din siguro how you squeeze the nozzle. ;D and mas makapal compare sa airbrush. if you use this, just be sure to apply 2-3 coats. more than that, makapal na. and you'll still need to apply pa 2 coats of topcoat for protection. imagine, almost 5-6 coats of paints.
about issues on durability/scratching. during painting, di talaga maiiwasan yan. accident do happen. when it's dry, same thing might happen also. esp when you play with it na. ;D pose nang pose. touch nang touch. daming cases. kaya nga the best advice after you paint your kits eh not to hold them at all. display it na lang. i learned this lesson the hard way. i missed touching my Freedom. huhuhuhuhu. cruel? medyo. ;D hehehehe. esp to those who likes to play with their kits.
best brands. it depends on the availability of the colors. right now, i'm using 2 brands in my Red Frame. RJ for the metallics. Pylox for the colored parts. i noticed also that RJ Acrylic Epoxy is more 'makapit'. that's according to my dad. it's 'Epoxy' type of paint daw. sorry mga bros, di nya gaanong na-explain eh. ;D
top coats. whatever paints you use, you should always put topcoats. whether in flat, semi-gloss or gloss. this is a protection for your paints and for your masterpiece.
and remember this important messages: 1. Inhaling too much lacquer/enamel paints can cause lung problems. 2. Dispose of waste solvents, paints, and other materials in accordance with health, safety, and environmental protection regulations. 3. Always be prepared to provide your doctor with precise information about the chemicals you use and your work practices. Arrange for regular blood tests for lead if you use lead-containing paints or pigments. 4. Clean/Wash your kits first before you paint them.
and the most important one is...
5. KEEP YOUR GUNDAM MASTERPIECES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. ;D

epoxy paints may adhesive nga ata talaga yan, used it on painting modded pc cases, for me kasi it acts as a filler na rin ng mga gaps and rough edges, so di na need i putty. i find it na too "thick" nga lang, so am not sure how it would really looks like on mech kits, hindi ba na fi fill up nya yung panel lines nyan sir noeljm?

that's what i noticed din. it's "thicker" than the regular acrylic lacquer spray paints. what i do is i let the first coat dry first, so that the paint has time to self-level. with my Red Frame, i just applied 2 coats lang. just be sure lang na light coats each coating. so far, happy ako dun sa bronze internal part. yun nga lang, slow progress ako lately. hehehe. ;D
regarding sa mga panel lines & details... since i use the 1/100 scaled kits, di naman masyado natatabunan. i worry lang when i start to build na my HG 1/144 kits. hopefully, di masira mga small details nun. or else... back to hand-brushing na naman ako.
hope that helps bro.

An additional advice: If you there's a hardware (an actual one and not an DIY or ACE type) near your location, ask them if they have the catalogue of their spray paint brands like Bosny.
I luckily know the owner of the hardware near my village and I can easily place orders of any color I want. The color selection in the brand's catalogue is great. They have transparent colors, pearl colors, metallics and other varients not available in your common stores. It only costs around 100-150 per can depending on the type.

They have a slight difference. The ones in tubes are specially made for canvas paintings while the ones in bottles are made for everything else. In my experience, I found acrylics in tubes more concentrated. Composition wise, I have no clue what varies among them but I'm pretty sure that there are additives for the tubed ones.

that's exactly what i want to find out, the additives to mix with the tube ones to make it like those on the bottles. is it only the 91% alcohol or something else? it's cheaper to get those acrylics on tubes.

Price probably depends on the brand you're getting. I can easily find tubed acrylics that costs 2x the bottled ones. Anyway, Google is our friend. I'll try to find out what exactly the difference once I'm free.
