yup, try it first on extra parts. i answered that based on my experience. the unfinished Red Frame. before i thought those spots you're talking about was part of the paint. that's why i have uneven paint marks on my Red Frame. or i just did something wrong. but when i asked around some people and ask this to some forums, they told me to spray it when the sun is hot. between 11am - 3pm. spray it with a distance of 6 inches from the kit. with a 'misty' application (hindi isang spray-an). which i did later on. and i find the paint more even out and no 'spots'. same goes with my flat top coat on my HG MKII in which i'm more satisfied compare to my flat top coat application on the MG Freedom.
"trial and error lang."

Ack! I should try transferring my RJ primer to a bottle so I can thin it down. What would be an appropriate thinner for RJ primer? Acrylic thinner, laquer thinner, enamel thinner, or denatured alcohol? Sorry for the question, I would usually experiment myself but I wouldn't want to waste primer. i use lacquer thinner (generic) for thinning paints ke acrylic or lacquer. nyehehhe. Oh ok, so you can use lacquer thinner for both acrylic and other types of paints. Can we just airbrush paint thinned with laquer thinner directly on the kit without priming?

I just prime my kits coz: 1. makes it easier for me to see problem spots that needs puttying or sanding. 2. After i sand i prime again para pantay. otherwise you'll get the 'camo' effect. 3. I've always had a problem painting using White paint the primer helps the paint to spread better. 4. habit na rin for me to prime. Yes you can use lacquer thinner for thinning acrylic. it works for me naman. But unlike thinning acrylics with 90% alcohol you just need very small amounts of lacquer thinner. teka...if you're going to use acrylics a cheap alternative for thinning is to use 90% alcohol ethyl. ;D

add-on lang to brod checkmate's post:
5. if you're color-modding your 'dark colored' kit, you have to prime it. or else you will have a hard time painting red color paint to black plastic parts.
remember that it's easy to paint dark paints to light parts than paint light colors to dark parts. have to try that white primer i saw last week. hehehe.

Here are the pics i took recently with my topcoating experiment which i did top coat on a sunny non windy day b4 the typhoon came.. results are bad despite applying what i believe is a reallly thin coat.. but wet sanding did remove the surface roughness.. the topcoat that i used is a Rj Clear Laquer.. gonna give it another try sometimes as the parts are now being stripped with the topcoat. just click the links for REALY big pictures. Fullshot Legshot 1 Legshot 2 Legshot 3Just ignore all the dirt since i didnt bother cleaning it and i had lots of ink blots on my fingers at that time.. those parts are from the left side of the legplates. im starting to think that i should commission someone to do a pro topcoating for me

Finally got the desired results even with the crappy weather i still insisted on doing a practice spraypainting.. results are very good.. and the finish feels so smooth and seems very invisible.. what i did was dip the can in a VERY hot water ( not boiling ) .. only that part above had a very smooth surface feel the rest had a little roughness but still the topcoat is no where near visible

neodark bro, did you paint your Freedom? nweiz, you're using RJ Clear Coat. so it's a gloss finish you're going for. well, atleast, you got the right method on using spraycans. good for you. trial and error lang talaga, bro. besides, spraycans and bad weather doesn't really mix.

strange thing happened to my spray can today.. i was spraying some armor plates and suddenly the air that came out of the can became weaker and weaker then it stopped spraying, checked the nozzle for clogs and it still sprays fine on my dull coat, i checked the valve thats on the spray can an d the tiny hole seems to be very visible and slightly boubling out some few paints.. to put it short i think the can has ran out of air.. it still retains a good weight and you can hear the liquid still inside

that happened to me also twice or thrice. one of the disadvantages of using spraycan paints. when the can rans out of compressed air.

People, I have some questions...@_@ How do you put in the panel lines on the edges of armors? Geh..I can't really explain it. >_< See the shield of the Aegis? How can you put in the panel lines like that? Can it be done with a Gundam Marker? @_@ I do the pass the marker along a panel line then wipe off the excess. I don't know how to do it for those kinds of edges. @_@
