The sequel to the hugely successful and critically-acclaimed "Batman Begins" will begin filming (principal photography) in March 2007 in Chicago. ;D The movie, entitled "The Dark Knight", is set to be released on 18 July 2008 and will again be directed by Christopher Nolan. This will be the first Batman movie that does not have the name "Batman" in the title. Several of the cast in Batman Begins will reprise their roles, including: Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman); Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth); Gary Oldman (Lt. James Gordon); and Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox). The Joker, the primary villain in "The Dark Knight", will be played by Heath Ledger (A Knight's Tale, Brokeback Mountain). Since Katie Holmes will not reprise her role as DA Rachel Dawes, the producers are looking for a new actress to take her place. Rumor has it that the top candidates are Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) and Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers, The Notebook). DA Harvey Dent is also slated to make an appearance (he will assist Batman and Lt. Gordon in pursuing the Joker - his Two-Face Persona will not appear until the third movie). Among the contenders for the role are Aaron Eckhart (The Core, Thank You For Smoking); Liev Schreiber (CSI, The Sum of All Fears); and Ryan Phillipe (Gosford Park, The Breach). i was a bit anxious about the casting of heath ledger as the joker, and thought that someone like jack nicholson would be better suited for the part. however, the timeline they're working on is the early years of the batman - so everyone's younger (and no robin yet ;D) the script will also re-write the joker character into someone more like a homicidal maniac instead of a kooky villain - more evil, hatred and cunning, less kidding around. chris nolan said they will focus more on his evil eyes than his chilling laugh.

In the very first Batman film (Keaton & Nicholson) It was the joker who murdered his family (young Bruce). Right? Or am I wrong? In Batman begins it was not the case since the joker there could have not murdered his family since the new Joker (Ledger) is young just like Batty himself. What gives? Any ideas?

director chris nolan says he will draw inspiration for the joker that will appear in "the dark knight" from the graphic novel "the killing joke"

That Batman Begins version is more accurate. In the comics Joe Chill killed Bruce's parents and by year two Bruce almost killed him using a hand gun.

Any ideas? according to Batman comic books -- in which they drew inspirations for Batman Begins -- Joker and Joe Chill are different characters. they merge both characters for the 1989 Batman movie. hence the quote by Batman: "I made you. But you made me first." somehow the 1989 Joker/Joe Chill story back then made sense. umikot din kay Joker.
and what they will do on the next sequel is make the Joker younger. in which the same with comic book, almost the same age with Bruce. but i think a little older. and it would really make more sense that way. besides, Joe Chill died on Batman Begins.

Christopher Nolan DID followed the original story he used for Batman Begins...Tim Burton just used his imagination that Joker killed Bruce's parents, not Joe Chill..
but will Nolan make Joker with the makeup and that sinister smile or as the Joker's alter ego..i forgot his real name....
when i first saw the part where Jim Gordon was appointed as the new commisioner, he gave Bruce the Joker's calling card in Batman Begins..i thought that hey...there would be a possible sequel coz the movie was d**n fine

it has been confirmed that Maggie Gyllenhaal(is it the right spelling?) will replace Katie Holmes aka Mrs. Tom Cruise as DA and Bruce's girlfriend/childhood sweetheart Rachel Dawes in the upcoming Batman sequel...
obivously Rachel will be in the next film...and Bruce couldnt be happier..hehehe
