I have a question about gundam model variations like HG MG and about the scales 1:100 1:144,
Last December 09 I bought a Striker Noir GAT-X105E for 230$ HK its a MG Version but i cant see any print if its 1/100 or 1/144 i searched and found out that there are 2 types MG 1/100 and MG 1/144.
So whats the difference between the two? only the size?
Also i would like to ask the looks of HG Version gundams. Because im planning to buy a Gundam 00 Raiser, but cant see the differences by just looking the boxes on sites.

rapmachina: MG kits are 1:100 in scale, HG, FG, and the newly release RG are in 1:144 in scale. There are also NG 1:100 but since you have a Strike Noir, surely that's an MG since as far as my knowledge there were no released NG of that kit... The major difference of the two is the details and the difficulty of assembling (ofcourse the price hehe) MG are like the best model kit that you could buy and quite affordable than PG's (1:60 Perfect Grade) HG version nowadays especially 00 series had great improvements compared from the past 1:144 HG. Even the newly releases HGUC have improved.

Just to add information on what has already been said... the link below will give you a better description of what differentiates all the different Grades from each other... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam_modelAnd to clarify this bit of detail... MG Gundam doesn't come in 1:144 scale kits... the best thing this scale has for the time being is the RG or Real Grade... Check out Dalong.net for the specific Gundam version you want in all scale sizes available and the rate he's given on them. It's in Korean and although you can use a translator, I wouldn't recommend it. For the 00 Raiser sets both the regular and the Designer Colors have their own strength and number of parts differentiation. Regular: dalong.net/review/00/0113/0113_p.htmDesigner Color : dalong.net/review/00/0117/0117_p.htmCheck the bottom and top flaps of the box for the scale size which should appear there and not the main cover or side flaps. Query
For those who have a MG Guntank built... can the tread roll when you push it without popping out of their sockets? I read somewhere that the tread often pops off... Thanks...

well its your call what model you really really like..are you going for the HG or the MG? if your going for the MG, only Unicorn and exia (i think exia got 3 variants as well as unicorn) has an MG treatment in the series (except if you like sinanju in the unicorn series) Both have their own charisma and gimmicks..i suggest watch some collectors on youtube that reviews gundam kit or go to dalongs page.

It's best to know what's your modeling skill level is first before delving into a MG kit as it is a lot more expensive than an HG/NG kit of the same scale. Here's the low down: No Grade kits are available for collectors who want the mechs in the Gundam series they are watching... therefore it's also mass produced for low and high income collectors, and newbie to intermediate modelers. Why? It's probably because Bandai want's to know which Gundam kit will sell and not if they are going to up the level to Master Grade. Even if a certain Gundam appeals to a lot of followers but they don't generate enough support for a model kit then the No Grade option is less expensive during production. The model kits are usually hollow to limit the amount of plastic during production allowing a more affordable item for collectors. Master Grades are almost comparable to Tamiya and Hasegawa kits as they are created for experienced modelers who wants more detail and accuracy. They have interior endoskeleton instead of hollow plastics thus the number of parts also doubles adding to the complexity of their build. Because of this, the production of these kits are much more expensive than the No Grade and High Grade kits. So, to put it simply HG and NG 1/100 kits are for newbie to intermediate modelers while MG kits are for intermediate to experienced modelers. If you get past this... you'll probably be parts counter... the more parts the better... ;D My Advice: - If you can handle a HG/NG 1/100 kit you can try a simple RX-78 kit (the ver. 2 is ok too but for simplicity ver. 1 is still available)... - Try the MG Exia since it's the only 00 Gundam in that class... - Checking dalong.net pictures will give you an idea of the pros and cons of the model you want... and the problems they entail during build... Here's my parts list for MG kits I intend to get someday... ;D Part's count may differ because I only used the manual scan from Dalong for this list... Guntank = 348 - 04 unused = 344 Astray Blue Frame = 366 - 14 unused = 352 Astray Red Frame = 446 - 49 unused = 397 Unicorn Cage = 509 - 15 unused = 494 Unicorn (not v. Ka) = 402 - 12 unused = 390 Wing = 334 - 01 unused = 333
