SHF Kamen Rider OOO Tatoba Combo and UnkhCharacter Bio: Eiji Hino is a man who has no dreams, no job, and no family. When animal-like monsters called Greeed awaken after their 800-year slumber to attack humans and feed off of their desires, a bird-type Greed called Ankh gives Eiji a belt and three Medals to fight the Greeeds. This allows Eiji to become Kamen Rider OOO. The mysterious Kougami Foundation approaches him and begins assisting him in his fight against the Greeed, but their true motives are not clear. When Eiji fights for the first time, he starts to realize what it means "to be alive." The Tatoba combo is OOO's main form and is the combination of the Taka (Hawk), Tora (Tiger) and Batta (Grasshopper) medals given by Unkh when he first met Eiji and gave him the OOO driver.
The designs of the costume is faithfully recreated in OOO's SHF incarnation with an absolutely great detailing job on the chest, head and belt of the figure. I was especially impressed by the markings on the chest which shows the 3 symbols meshed together and embossed on the figure. Paint application is topnotch with no paint bleeds or splotches noticeable. I was also impressed by how the 3 medals stood out from the silver color of the belt. Very eye-catching. OOO comes with 3 weapons/accessories apart from its usual handset: the OOO scanner, the Tora claws and the Medajalibur.
The OOO scanner is a small, circular accessory that is attached to OOO belt. It's used to be able to initiate his initial transformation, combo changes and scanning charge final attacks. The scanner is quite detailed and fits snugly on both the belt and the grip hand with only minor paint bleeds on the yellow sections.
The Tora claws are my favorite from the set. They're a lot like Wolverine's claws and they're attached via a cufflink change on OOO's wrist. Lastly, the Medajalibur is OOO's sword. It's also quite detailed and stays true to how it looked like in the series even adding the inserted Cell Medals and slot lever on the sword sculpt. Unkh comes as a separate accessory that one can purchase along with OOO. He comes with his own special stand (not in the picture since I don't open special stands) and comes with standard SHF wrist articulation. What makes Unkh significant is, of course, his character as the keeper of OOO transformation medals making this an absolutely great addition to your OOO figure.
Unkh comes well-detailed with the wings on his back and the tattered clothes at base of where the elbow should be. You can even say the scale-like texture of the skin when you lean forward and the small green details on the hands are even added in to contrast the red-black exterior that makes up most of Unkh. Very great work here Bandai! One of the great disappointments of this figure though is the drastic change from metallic, hinge joint feet to plastic, ball joint feet. The ball joint feet are nowhere near the level of articulation and stability that the metallic, hinge joint feet provided and I am still at a loss as to why Bandai decided to go for this move. It even shows on the back of the box that this figure was supposed to have hinge joint feet. Why Bandai why?
Also, the head came out feeling loose and wobbly when I first took it out of the box. This seems to be a universal complaint on the figure as I've also seen other reviews on the fig that pointed out the problem.
Luckily, since both feet and head are on ball joints, you can pop both off and use either the super glue/nail polish method to make the joints more stable. I decided to put in a few small bits of tissue to strengthen the head joint and add a bit of height for the feet. The head now feels more secure while the feet have a better range of motion from before. Conclusion:
While I love the sculpt and accessories of this figure, it's still a bummer for me regarding the lack of metal feet and the fact that I had to do minor mods on what should've been an OOTB, ready to play figure. Then again, I can't overlook the fact that the figure is a pretty darn good one with Bandai able to put in almost all of OOO's gimmicks here except for the rotating belt which is just fine by me.
Thanks for looking! ;D

S.H. Figurarts ShinkenRed Samurai Sentai Shinkenger Character Bio: Takeru Shiba a.k.a. ShinkenRed is a young man descended from feudal lords, referred by his vassals and servants as Lord. He was raised since childhood by Hikoma Kusakabe to act the role of the 18th head of the Shiba House after his father gave him the Sisi Origami. His upbringing made him create a facade to look very arrogant and proud to others, claiming none can match his strength and greatness, while keeping his cool in any situation. Though he was reluctant to have the vassals fight by his side, as he wanted no one else to bear the burden, he allowed their involvement after giving them the choice to turn back or become Shinkengers out of want rather than need, as long as they are willing to finish their mission to the last detail. ShinkenRed is the leader of the Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and is the very first Ranger to appear at the series' pilot.
The figure design is a full capture of his onscreen appearance, taking note of the slender figure with well placed paint applications on the different body parts of the costume. The paint job on the face where the Fire kanji is used does have a few paint bleeds from the black to white parts but nothing too alarming to distract you from the overall figure. The red color is a lil glossy though so it looks plasticky from afar. A matte' paint app, IMHO, would've been much better but that's just me. The figure, just like OOO, comes with his own black-boxed companion: a Kuroko, or stage hand. In the show, Kuroko's served the Shinkengers by announcing their presence, dressing them up in their samurai attire, as aid in evacuating civilians from battlefields and as their daily house help. The Kuroko is a solid, slightly heavy figure, made entirely of ABS, and has no posability whatsoever. It serves more as a display piece or an accessory than a figure actually and once posed behind ShinkenRed, there's not much you can do about him after. Still, it's a pretty good addition if you want to just display the Shinkengers in their role call pose.
Accessories-wise, he comes with all of his signature weapons: the Shodouphone, Shishi Origami in its emblem and lion form, 2 hiden discs: the common disk and the Shishi disk, Shinkenmaru katana and his Rekka Daizantou giant sword. The Shodouphone is a pen-like phone that the Shinkengers use to transform as well as summon their elemental Kanji's to perform/create objects or summon energies to combine with their weapons to create powerful finishing attacks. The Shishi origami (both emblem and lion form) is ShinkenRed's personal origami. Emblem mode shows the fire kanji which symbolizes red as the Samurai of Fire. It can transform into its lion mode that serves as companion and protector of Takeru. Lastly, when needed, the Shishi origami forms the torso for Shinken-Oh, the Shinkengers' giant mecha.
Hiden discs are used to generate power for weapons. The black, ordinary disc is used to active the Shinkenmaru katana at the onset of their transformation. Also, by spinning the disc fast enough, it can transform the Shinkenmaru into each Ranger's signature weapon. The red, Shishi disc is used to tap into ShinkenRed's fire elemental powers to generate energy attacks from the Shinkenmaru or to power up his Rekka Daizantou.
The Shinkenmaru is the Shinkengers' signature katana blade. The hilt, acting like a praxinoscope, can be spun for the Shinkengers to call upon their elemental powers to add more power to their attacks. This fits quite snugly on his belt which is a very good touch towards accuracy from Bandai, IMO. I also love that it has the little small carvings on the hilt and handle of the katana . Lastly, the Rekka Daizantou is ShinkenRed's signature weapon. It is a giant Zanbatou sword that he uses to either cleave enemies or as a shield from long range weaponry. You gotta love how well this weapon was made. Show-accurate with all the details that you see on the show version, very large yet light enough for the figure to hold without sacrificing stability and posability. My only complaint with the weapon is that you can't transform it to gun mode on this release just like in the show. Posing is easy and fluid on this figure. Given that there are no hindering armor parts, it can do a lot of dynamic poses such as kneeling, running, jumping, etc with relative ease. Although it sports the plastic feet, unlike past releases that had metal feet, the figure stands tall and straight, it's very sturdy even when handling the Rekka Daizantou giant sword.
One thing I did note is that the shoulder joint is much more exposed now since there is no armor covering it up like Rider figures. It's a little awkward to look at at first but you get used to it after awhile. In conclusion, I was completely blown away by how cool this figure is. It's the first Sentai SHF ever released and boy, did Bandai deliver. I am now eagerly looking forward to the release of the rest of the team from this line. The figure comes highly recommended in my book.
Thanks for looking! ;d
