You get what you pay for. Go for the original. Now it takes one to know one. I myself had purchased a bootleg in 168 mall, divisoria from one of them chinese. The costume colors are mismatched. The skin tone is like that of the color of "saging con yelo". And it doesnt come with a base stand.
But it became a good display in a hostile environment... the office.

Why buy bootleg? I mean who in their right mind, well pardon me newbie collectors who just got duped into buying one, would buy bootleg.Seriously, why start a collection with a bunch of bootlegs. It's just unthinkable. 1. budget constraint 2. personal gratification when the original isn't available (locally) 3. they just want one Unless the person is naive to these things there is no explaining why we buy fakes other than were duped. Personally I buy fake Gundam for some parts but sometimes curiosity drives me like the elusive MG Gundam Mk II v2 which I should have grabbed before, because after examining that thing, you wouldn't believe the lengths Ben Di went through although the build process would have shown the difference and problems of the immitation. It's not unthinkable, it's just a matter of priority.

I've read this thread and i'm now wondering...how can I determine a gashapon which if it's fake or not? everyone knows that gashapons are very small to have precise paints..
I've read in some anime sites that are selling gashapons and trading figs and I found something that I didn't saw when I bought the xenosaga trading figs in GT..the one I got at GT have 7 figs but the one being sold in the net has 8 figs and in one box..can anybody tell me why they're dissame? and how can you determine those which are sold in plastics if they're the original ones? there are a lot of them being sold..
oh and one more..regarding gundams and mech kits(SRW and the such)..which do you think is better? those in the department stores or not? I know both looks the same though^^ just curious..

Department Stores have a tendency to overprice the kits (exception is TK Makati and TK Antipolo). While there are some of those shops who also slightly overprice their kits, they make up for it with discounts and such. Greattoys for example is an "outside" Department store, but prices are fair. Anyone back on topic: Bootlegs are often annoying...But sometimes people buy them unintentionally (for example online). So it pays to have a quick eye and know the difference between originals and bootlegs. Here's a quicklist on how to spot bootlegs I. Figures a. Pale skin tone b. Paint bleeds on clothing c. Eyes are kinda crossed-eyed, or blurry (like they are blind ) d. Accessories are kinda bent e. Figures with articulation joints make a strong "creaking" sound when handled f. Blurry Box II. Model Kits a. Blurry or shoddy boxart b. No "BANDAI" logo (learn to read, BEN DI often tricks people with its almost accurate logos) c. Plastic used on model kit has a "rough" and irritating texture when hands are ran through the parts. d. Plastic creaks and makes the "Snap-Snap-Creak-Snap" sound when parts are moved. e. Plastics are semi-translucent when held on a light source. f. Chinese characters on the box g. The product code on the box (underneath the serial code), has letters

how about the scattered paint drops? are those normal for originals? I got a figure in GH last year and when I opened, I saw scattered paint drops all over the fig..sadly I cannot exchange it because they say it cannot be replaced unless there's a part broken when I opened it..I tried contacting the manufacturer but I didn't get any reply..so I just gave it away due to the dirtiness of the paint job..I pre-ordered the item but I got a dirty paint job out of my patience in waiting..

As mentioned before, it would be best to do research first before buying so you will know any tell-tale sign of the fakes from originals. Paint drops don't usually mean the item is fake specially when they are mass produced. This is also the result of the rush in production that compromises quality. It is however rare in Japanese figures and kits to see these paint drops so checking online reviews and comparison photos help a lot.

Specialized stores/ places to buy where there are sure orig figmas (have dealings with them so I'm sure) Greattoys (about the Xenosaga, GT must have the first edition set hence only 7 pieces), wasabi, and omniclone(an individual guy) (btw, they ain't paying me for an endorsement). As for the others well purchase at your own risk.
Haruhi figmas goes around Php 1,400 up

I guess, from now on, before you guys buy Figmas, better search the net for facts about the original one. From what I've seen with bootleg figmas, they forgot to edit the shadow with the box art. The original has black shadow with the character box art while the fake one has white.
