*** I've consolidated my WIP to look more uniform
First Kit: FAZZ
The 1/144 FAZZ is the first kit i ever bought but it disintegrated as i never knew the real joys of Gunpla modeling until i saw a few in hobbyfanatics.com and in a few HobbyJapan mags.
Now that i've acquired a MG FAZZ Sentinels version, I can redeem myself and put my 1/144 FAZZ to rest.
Here's the box after i checked for complete parts and replaced the cover:
I'm working on the head so a pic of my progress will follow.
FAZZ WIP part 1:
** sorry if the pics are fuzzy; i only have a camera phone **
This kit's box is HUGE; maybe twice as large as the RX-78 box and a bit bigger than the RX-78 GP02 A. box Some of the parts have flash on the panels, especially on the leg armor. this is nothing a coat of primer can't handle though.
After checking that the parts were complete, i took all the sprues out of the wrapper and hung them from a metal rod using old shower curtain holders. This frees up my 3'x3' table so i can work more on the kit itself.
Hang them all!
I decided to build the FAZZ head first since I'm relatively new to this whole sand, putty, prime, sand, putty, prime, paint deal. Not to say I hate it, I just hadn't enough time or was too scared to try it back then. I first cleaned each piece with soapy water, placed them in the FAZZ box and replaced the cover. I think doing this will minimize dust particles sticking to the parts.
FAZZ WIP part 2:
The weather looks better now so I started to prime the head parts. I'm contemplating whether or not I'll prime everything first and then paint or prime and paint each part as I go along. Anyway, the head parts are primed now as you will see below:
When they dried, I sanded them with 1500 grit sandpaper and brushed of the dust that accumulated. I also took care not to take off the coat of primer. I applied putty to the visible seams. When dry, I sanded first with 250, 400, 600 and 1500 grit.
I painted the mouthpiece and the goatee (hehe) then attached them to the eye parts. I panel lined the mouthpiece by hand and i tried to take a pic of my work but the cameraphone really isn't for this type of photography. *sigh* here'a a pic of what i have so far:
FAZZ WIP part 3:
Time to finish the head and start on the other parts. From this point on, i'll most likely follow the build order from the manual.
I mixed about 3 parts white to 1 part black and 1 part royal blue. after thinning with Tamiya acrylic thinner (denatured alcohol), i applied it to the head which i pre-assembled without the V antenna and High Mega Particle Cannon (?).
I had a bit of trouble with this method however. since i don't have an airbrush, i had to hand brush the paint mix. since the head is practically a 1 inch cube, it was fairly easy to hide my brush strokes. so much more if i spray a coat or two of dull lacquer. the trouble with this method is that i have to really thin down the paint to cover large areas. this is going to increase the building time by maybe twice.
You'll see my PG WZC in the background without its wings. hehe
As i said in a previous post, i'll try removing all the parts and prep them for priming and puttying before painting. hopefully by the time i'm done, i'll have my Tamiya airbrush and compressor.

A small mishap happened when i was building the feet: by mistake i placed the wrong polycaps into both heels (where the pointy part goes). arrrrgggggg!!!
2 problems arise:
1. it's too big for the peg of each heel to fit snugly
2. i have to find another pair of the same polycaps so i don't come up short.
solutions:
1. fill the larger polycap with putty and insert the heel peg, making the necessary sanding and filling later (crap, more delay )
2. good thing i save all the leftover polycaps from my older kits.
** note to self: no more Gunpla building marathons (to think i already learned my lesson after building my PG WZC for 12 hours straight)

I had to do some emergency repair to my FAZZ's feet. When i assembled the toes, i made them heavier by putting tamiya putty in the spaces. Today, i found that there were depressions in the tops of the toes! experimentally I touched the depression and oops, it made the situation worse. calming myself down, I thought i could scrape out the putty and then use an old credit card (styrene) to repair the hole.
I cut the card to size and superglued it to the top of the toe. I then proceeded to sand it down to become smooth and have beveled edges. After I re-primed. it looked like new. PHEW!!! I will post pics as soon as work permits.
FAZZ WIP part 4
I cut the first several parts for the shoulders off the sprue trees and sanded them down to remove traces of where my cutter
made its mark. initially i had decided to build according to the
instruction manual's order. now i decided to build from the feet
going up.
Both ankles and toes are built including the lower legs. As you
guys may have read, i had a couple of accidents when building
them. the first was when i assembled one of the ankles
incorrectly and the second was when i found that the toes got
melted after i put too much putty into them.
Coming soon: upper legs, arms and torso (Voltron?!?)
FAZZ WIP part 5
After a long hiatus, an update!!
I have finally done the hips and lower torso of the FAZZ. As you will see in the pic below, things are looking good. The upper torso has been airbrushed (YAY!) a flat blue and I'm planning to make it a bit darker in color later. Forward part of the torso is not yet painted but I'll get to that when work (Grrr) again allows me time.
Next up, I am starting on the core block and re-priming the head as I realize I don't like the color I initially painted it. Shoulders and upper arm are ready for priming too; it's just that i forgot to include them in the picture. hehe ;D
TINY FAZZ Update:
I'm working on the backpack today and was about to start priming when it started to rain. grrr!!!
