Knives are no no.... if you dont have a budget for cutters try to use nippers... borrow one from your sis or mom.... but then i suggest tamiya cutters...

Bandai Plastic Cutters is available at GT. not so sure about the price. roughly around P400+. or you could try ACE hardware for a counterpart.

Can the Tamiya cutter cut all the way through the excess plastic? I know that non-tamiya ones will still leave a bit of plastic cutting.

Tamiya cutter is the best one I've used, if you cut it right, there's almost no need to sand it off.

Which one do you use the "Modeler's Side Cutter" or the "Sharp Pointed Side Cutter" ?

I bought the Sharp Pointed Side Cutter at Lil's for P810.
I think their difference lies on the applied force needed to cut the sprue, mine has a cutter closer to the pivot so it cuts like a warm knife on a butter. It also looks heavier and better grip (rough rubber handles).
When I bought my cutter, the only ones available are the 'sharp pointed side cutter' and the 'side cutter for plastic', the latter is a cheaper by approx P100.

I don't understand what you mean. There's no such thing as 'Tamiya nipper', they're all called 'cutters' and they are listed here.

i apologize for the misunderstanding. i thought 'cutter' was just the blade, like a scalpel per se.
