I did a marathon run on my anime collection the other week. Kailangan ko kasi ng inspiration. I have noticed that some anime have bad endings, or parang 'BITIN'. In your opinion, name some anime that have bad endings...
Here are my line-up
1. Gaogaigar final- everyone dies except the two kids
2. Gundam Seed Destiny
3. Berserk-very,very sad
4.B't X- all the heroes dies
5. DragonBall GT- Goku dies
6. Samurai X Reflection- Himura and Kaoru dies

For me, it's Saikano.
I felt the whole series was so depressing that I didn't care what the ending was and the ending was kind of blah after what all the characters went through.

I think it would be more appropriate to call this thread "Saddest Endings Ever" I can think of several anime would sad endings for the characters but it made for good stories. Some of the most critically acclaimed anime are ones that had some endings like Graveyard of the Fireflies and Voices from a Distant Star. I always liked that about anime since life is not always happy. I guess we just got used to the typical American cartoons which always had a happy ending.
On the other hand, I can think of two anime that held some promise but the endings just sucked because of poor storytelling. One would be Mahoromatic which had a sad "ending" of sorts at the second to the last episode but had a forced happy ending that didn't make sense. Another would be Real Bout High School: Samurai Girl. The story had a happy ending (everyone was alive and well) but the story lost focus and rushed towards the end.
As for the ending of Evangelion, well, that was pretty controversial and is always subject to debate.

Cooking Master Boy - The ending itself isn't that bad, but it really feels like a cop-out since they were supposed to find seven legendary cooking tools and only got three when they ended the series. Why bother saying they were seven if we wouldn't be seeing the rest?
Samurai X (the TV series) - They ended the series with the most boring story arc and absolutely no resolution of the characters.
I don't like how some anime shows just abruptly end and require the audience to read the manga version to see the conclusion.

As I said the ending of NGE will always be controversial with fans, the movies (Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and End of Evangelion) showed a more conventional end to the series. If you want a similar themed anime with a "better" ending, I suggest you watch Rahxephon. I once said to someone at GT that Rahxephon is "NGE done right."
Honestly, I first found the ending to be a major let down but when you understand that the director Hideaki Anno suffered a nervous breakdown during production and turned the series into his personal statement of the struggles and inner demons people face everyday then it sort of makes sense. I can appreciate it when an artist tries to make a personal commentary even if it is not commercially acceptable.

Hehehe, I'm with JP on the Gaogaigar thing, rumors have it that there's a new series in the works(since they re-run the entire Final series as Grand Glorious Gathering.. possibly as a stepping stone for a new series). An interview in 2003-2004 with the creator of the GGG series said that there were 3 stories to tell in the GGG Universe(as to whether Betterman comprises the 3rd story.. well.. let's hope not) hehe GGG fans can still be hopeful, recently there surfaced a "silouhette" image of a new GaoMachine called Mechanoid Gaigo, that supposedly forms a new "Star Gaogaigar" As for most senseless deaths/depressing endings... well, off the top of my head would be the ending of the Zanbot 3 series.. 2 of the 3 pilots died, along with the "older" members of the family.. it was just senseless death after death crammed into one episode... The saddest ending for me was the one with Samurai X Reflections. BTW.. anyone ever wonder in the ending of Daimos if Richard/Kazuya did die or not? ;D Gold

It was Ulrich who died.......if I'm not mistaken. He was muttering something about his not having a place in the new world of Erika and Richard.
