GMA-7 acquires exclusive rights to "Shaider"
Shaider, or Uchuu Keiji Shaider (English translation: Space Sheriff Shaider), is a Japanese live action series that originally ran in Asahi TV Japan noong 1984. Sa Pilipinas, it was first broadcast and dubbed in Filipino sa IBC-13 in the late '80s—pero ayon sa wikipedia ay noong 1992 raw ito unang ipinalabas sa Pilipinas—then re-telecast sa GMA-7 noong 2003. Its last syndicated run was in Hero TV, the cartoon channel of ABS-CBN, two years ago. It had 48 original episodes.
Tulad ng isa pang popular Japanese work na Lupin, nakuha rin ng GMA-7 ang rights ng Shaider. Isa ito sa mga susunod na primetime shows ng Kapuso Network.
Dominic Zapata is set to direct the Philippine version of Shaider after his Super Twins stint.
He will have five female assistants—four of whom will be Bianca King, Isabel Oli, Vaness del Moral, and Iwa Moto.
Ang Shaider din ang magiging follow-up primetime show ni Raymart Santiago after Narito Ang Puso Ko with Jolina Magdangal.

Cute... Shaider on prime time tv... I dunno whether to shudder or anticipate this...
Hey, wasn't Fuuma Le-Ar the main villain and not Drigo?

Nice news but still I'd prefer the old classic tagalog version. Ang hoping that there will be no cuts specially on those fan services

i was talking about this with a friend of mine the other day and we were wondering how the MONSTERS were going to look like. i am sure that the local shaider has a mid-range budget, they aren't going to spend on this like they do on one of richard guttierez' fantaseryes, so how will the monsters end up looking? are they all going to look like YOSI KADIRI?
another thing that i am doubtful about is that they can get good locations to shoot this, meaning, we can expect a lot of repetitive locations and empty lots. i doubt gma is going to get permission from famous locations like stadiums and beaches to shoot battle scenes, much like the battle scenes seen in the original shaider or in the new masked rider series.
whenever i go to makati, i see the front of the manila peninsula with the waterfalls and always envision shaider standing and posing at the top. i doubt gma can even get permission for that.
im not saying all this to downplay the show, it's just a realistic look.
regarding the combat suit, if gma bought the rights, it's possible that that the costume could come from japan. toei lends costumes regularly even just for toy promotions, like the faiz costume. BUT if GMA bought the rights from TSP, then they are totally on their own...

well, sorry to burst the bubble of GMA fans here or employees, it has been reported already that TOEI turned down the Philippine version of Shaider. No, GMA didn't acquire the rights. They never had. They were still under negotiation and TOEI was screening the scripts for Shaider prepared by GMA. Read the article: pep.ph/news/13986/Shaider-will-not-fly-on-Philippine-television-anymoreThis is a personal opinion, but I think GMA may have attempted to use the same "mass appeal techniques" for their shaider script by including romance between annie and shaider. I guess the big bosses from Japan were thinking correctly if this was the scenario. Shaider CANNOT and MUST NOT as a space police be romatically linked with his direct junior officer/partner who is Annie. Shaider as a space sheriff - even if it's just a story - will not look professional in the eyes of everyone. They're assigned to Earth to save it not to date or do any romantic stuff. In the shoes of the space police commander, Ill slap Shaider with a suspension or reassign him to another planet if he does! my opinion is purely speculative, but there is no other reason i think for them to turn down GMA.. At least I believe and affirm that the sanctity of Shaider will be preserved and will not be desecrated. YEAAAAH!!!! P.S. Sorry but i REALLY hate telenovela themes mixed with my favorite tokusatsu shows XP

GMA 7 will rather make a semi-sequel of Shaider instead of making a remake...I think Toei is still involved on this one i guess... Anyway it seems like Toei knew GMA 7's credbility of making these types of shows and they knew that the director in charge on this one wasn't that great... yap. come to think of it, why doesnt GMA get japanese directors instead? Perhaps, just perhaps, this semi-sequel (of Shaider's descendants) will be a hit.

the fact that it's descendants as in plural makes me think they are going to add sentai elements in it. still, i think they should just scrap it, considering they were already turned down. the fact that they are working their way around it will make it seem like a ripoff even more. the japanese turned gma down for a reason. they let the americans use shaider for vr troopers, which means they WOULD sell the rights to the characters if they are okay with what the buyer is going to do with it. the fact that gma was turned down should have compelled them to stay away from it as a matter of simple courtesy.

all i can say to this...
this is so stupid, first of all they already messed up the Lupin name with their crappy remake, heck i am just pissed at them, i admire shaider since i was a kid and grew up watching its episodes, i just dont want my (and others') memories of one of the greatest shows in history to be messed up by some @$$-holic company that craves for profit and and massive overdoses of stupid and pointless commercials...
i just hope they get what they deserve....
Abu S*yyaf! BOMB the GMA BUILDING!!!

HEY I'm watching Lupin even thou I don't understand/DON"T LIKE the story line. I watch it because ONLY with those two beautiful girls Erah Madrigal and Katrina Halili specially when they wear tight dresses ;D. Thats about it! ;D. My collegue in GMA says that it only rate because of those two girls without them it will be the biggest dissapointment on the network. ANYWAY is not really confirmed that GMA will cancel the Shaider project. My collegue heard rumors but its not definite. She heard that Casting and Exclusive Rights is the problem.

this may stray off the topic but i will keep it brief regarding lupin on gma. gma clearly banked on the anime's popularity but they based the story loosely on the french thief of whom the anime itself was based on. i heard a dialog in the trailer that the lupin in gma is a descendant of the french thief arsene lupin. that's as close to the anime as it gets, the fact that janno gibbs plays a bungling cop close to the anime's inspector zenigata is a ripoff.
anyway, back to gma's shaider, yeah from what the article in pep says, japan turned gma down for the rights to they are going to make some sort of "unauthorized" version, making the characters out to be descendants of shaider to make a semi-ripoff. it's a way around the rights issue and it's ticking me off.
i agree with boogie, as despiccable as it is, leave gma alone. let's not talk about bombing them. hey if gma goes down, we'll all be left with abscbn, and to me that's the worse of 2 evils. LOL

...sorry, i know it was meant as a 'joke'. but i think a 'bomb-this-bomb-that' remark is not necessary. esp to those who have relatives and friends, like me, working in GMA center.

exactly. and if the gma shaider is going to spoil someone's childhood memories of the original shaider, THEN DONT WATCH IT! it's that simple! heck it's not like gma is forcing us to watch these shows of theirs, and the fact that they keep making shows like this clearly means there are a ton of ppl out there who DO watch it. and don't get pissed at them for trying to make money, that's what the business is all about.
years ago when WB created smallville, i was very pissed coz i believed that making clark kent some wimpy kid with love problems in high school was something i couldnt accept since that was not how i grew up knowing superman. so i stayed away from it. believe me, it's that easy.
