i think it's too soon to predict or to expect what's new with this series. if there's gonna be a Vavilos? Blue Hawk? or even a Time Space Warp place where they're fighting. unless, we have a member here who is part of the GMA community to tell us the whole story or the concept on what's to expect from the series. as for what i've seen with the trailers and CM's, i think there's none.

i've seen parts of the show from the trailer, they only showed the academy training so far and i say it doesnt have the "shaider feel", i mean the locations, and the way the scenes are shot dont resemble shaider one bit.
and from what i know, GMA DIDN'T get permission from TOEI for this. they are traipsing around the copyright issue and are playing around between copyright infringement and public domain issues. the fact that they placed "all rights reserved, toei and telesuccess" on the teaser shows that they are making sure that they are not mistaken for claiming that they own the rights to shaider.
as for strange realm [time space warp], that would be so easy coz all they have to do is fight in front of a chroma backdrop like a green or blue backdrop and they can put the CG effects in the back like how it was done in shaider. then there are a couple of fog machines to add effects. if it was just going to copy shaider, then GMA SHOULD be able to pull it off since shaider was 20 years ahead and we should be more technologically advanced than they were at the time. however, GMA is still way behind when it comes to effects and their writers are lazy.
what i am afraid of is that they will cut costs when it comes to the monsters, i expect a lot of out of work stuntmen with a lot of makeup to be the monster, unlike the colorful monsters in shaider.
regarding the love angle, i am just saying that there should be one if the show is to be more realistic. for example, the soldiers in the 2007 movie of transformers had loved ones back home that they talked to via webcam, that shows that even soldiers have a love life or even married life. 20 years ago, when you watch gi joe, hardly any of them had any girlfriends and that was kind of weird to me. HOWEVER, the fact that the space sheriffs shouldnt be devoid of a love life DOESN'T MEAN that the show should center around it. knowing GMA, they will use the love angle as a marketing gimmick like you said, and there will be too much of it in the show and not enough sci fi action which is to be expected from a shaider wannabe.

yup. i do agree with you. let's just hope that GMA will do justice by making them Shaider's descendants. if not, kahiya-hiya ulit sila. ;D
...knowing GMA, they will use the love angle as a marketing gimmick like you said, and there will be too much of it in the show and not enough sci fi action which is to be expected from a shaider wannabe. oh, if ever this happen... the show sucks big time.

well business is business......IMO i think the marketing strat tends to sell rather than giving a more decent or quality remake from its original concept....."PARA SA MASA" rather than for the loyal Fans of Shaider.....suck$$$

Hahahaha ;D I saw the plug lately and its rather wierd... Zaido has the moves like "Zaido Punch" and Zaido Kick". Well it seems we all know who's character already has that and I was looking for a sword or a laser gun thingy. No mention the costume " Parang minadali pagkakagawa" its way too off the toei original designs, its like the famous Filipino term " Pwede na yan, Di na kita yan" IMO. Well like you all said, I think they just think of the cause of the many rather than the beauty for the few. Nothing against it just plain business as usual to them

yeah coz here in our showbiz industry, the stars sell the show. unlike in japan, the show sells the star. in a sentai, it could star a complete nobody and that nobody would be famous because of the sentai show. but here, it's the star who sells the show coz the target viewers dont care what the show is about, for as long as their favorite star is in it. so i dont expect gma to do zaido justice AS A TOKU SHOW.
for me, i dont like the helmet of the zaidos, i think it's coz the visor part in the eye section seems too big and looks like the cover of the head section of a medieval suit of armor. making it too thick shows lack of detail. there is also the lack of what i call the typical "tokusatsu mouth". if they fixed this design, it would stand a chance if compared to gavan. the zaidos leave a lot to be desired when it comes to detail.
based on what little i caught of the making of zaido tonight [saturday sep 22], it seems like gma exerted effort in making this a good one. it's what i would like to call an 80's show given a "post-millenium transfusion". the stories strike me as similar to the formulaic shaider stories [which can be considered corny by today's standards], the typical fuuma exploits kids' weaknesses and shaider saves the day.
i also noticed larry chan was mentioned in the credits, he is the "vince mcmahon" of TSP, the local rights owner of shaider.
i guess we have to be more objective when we bash this show, what can we really expect from it and should we really compare it to shaider?
the question that is fair to ask is this: if shaider was made TODAY, is this what it is supposed to look and feel like? the big dillemma for zaido is that it is the first toku of the philippines and it sets itself as 20 years more advanced than the established icon. if this show truly passed the standards of toei for a toku show, i'd like to see it.
i wish i could watch it without my mind automatically criticizing every little thing i see, i wish i can watch it like i would a typical masked rider show or toku show made in japan.

I just watched the "making" of Zaido at gma this 6pm and i really don't know what to say.. i don't know if i should cheer or lambast channel 7 for doing this.. but just to make my post unbiased, i will post it as a fact sheet instead:
1. "ZAIDO" as gma has put it, is the highest-rank a space-sheriff can attain within the ranks of the galactic police. So it is a TITLE/RANK, not just a codename.
2. The costume for me is not exactly pretty, they were wearing spandex alright, but the spandex is still too loose. You could see excess shirt material between the legs when the 3 main characters spread their legs. The spandex should be fitting, not loose.
3. Also, the armor is.. well... too bulky.. they didn't style it the way TOEI does where the armor shows the shape of the body. The entire costume looks like robocop.
4. I mistakenly texted Malvin that Annie will again be on the show. The poster girl is named "Amy" and there was no statement that she is a descendant of "Annie" from Shaider. She is cute though, and will have her own yellow sportscar.
5. It is confirmed that Zaido will have a transforming spaceship, but the name of the ship or the look of the ship-robot wasn't shown. They are keeping this a secret for some reason.
6. Expect nice CGI from this one, a very good improvement compared to the usual CGI we see from channel abscbn and gma. If you guys have been watching Ultraman, yes more than 80% of the CGI are that good.
7. Ultra Q and Kamen Rider Kabuto style of organization where they send troops to battle it out with the forces of Fuuma from planet to planet. What we never saw from the original space sheriffs trilogy of cops actually patrolling around the galaxy - we will see it from this show.
8. Errrr.. now the reason i was speechless was that they DID put TELENOVELA plots in the show. Yes, you heard me right. THAT IS OFFICIAL AND CONFIRMED. Expect the show to attempt to break your heart out...
9. TOEI was supervising every part of the script, but they didnt state if TOEI actually had a stunt coordinator flew in from Japan to supervise the stunt scenes. This "making" didnt show that much on the action part.. it's more of introducing the series and characters.
10. Yes the PNP (Phil. National Police) has now worn the universal colors for the vehicles. Yes, it's 3 Isuzu pickups that were given police sirens and lights and recolored to be in black and white.
11. Ida (Poe) is recharacterized as a more ...ehem.. sensual priest this time. See a man play a woman's role! But you will have to admit it's a pretty gay at that. Don't be deceived! HAR HAR HAR!
12. Sexy and beautiful Amazons! What else can we ask for? hehehe.. at least now they have actual names instead of the designation of Girl 1, Girl 2, etc. from the original series. I just hope their action scenes look good. Did i mention the part that they were sexy and beautiful?
13. Fuuma soldiers look tougher than the original troops in the shaider series. Their look has been completely changed.
14. Yup, there will be Strange monsters. But it won't be every episode since it is following the telenovela format where each plot is carried for more than a week. But the first monster they have shown doesn't quite convince me.. i just hope the rest of the Strange monsters do. Oh yeah the format of their names are also the same as the original monsters in Shaider: i.e. RikiRiki, PetoPeto... Repeating syllables and words
15. Fuuma looks like crap. His head got smaller than the original. He looks like a "tiyanak" (a baby monster from Philippine mythology). Period.
16. Oh yeah.. they will have their own "shigi-shigi" worship dance in front of Fuuma, but they haven't revealed their song yet.
17. Hestler (aka Drigo in the philippines) is sporting an armor with a bit of style influenced by the movie TRON.
18. The 3 main space sheriffs were separated at birth, that's why Philippine fans were curious why a space sheriff was being trained on land when he was supposed to be training in space. No, that part was for one of the to-be-space-sheriffs training to be accepted for the local police force. He is not yet a space sheriff at that time.
All in all, I was curious why they colored the local police vehicles to be black and white.. are they going to attempt to export this to Japan.. perhaps Toei will broadcast this show there too? Hmm hmm

Also saw the "Making of Zaido" feature yesterday, and to be fair, the show HAS potential. It only remains to be seen how they can sustain the quality and story without resorting to the usual soap-opera methods.
In fairness, I really am hoping they pull this off. A lot of the things here are promising, Shaider purists aside, but its the execution that still has to be tested...
Why no glowing eyes? Shaider had glowing eyes...

Saw also the Making of Zaido yesterday at GMA 7. Let's just say that my mouth was agape while watching it (both from horror, shock and awe) The Amazonas are there alreight...and thir codenames are color coded namely Amazonang Rosas, Kahel, and Puti...the rest I forgot. They have 3 Motorcycles...proudly philippines made with body kits from A-Toys Body Kit Builders (the car body cuctomization specialist in Manila) The Motorcycles are Red Falcon, Green Falcon and Blue Falcon (I kind of like Blue Hawk better...old school boy me )

To be frank as a purist in some way, I just don't like the way this is turning out to be. First few episodes might be very nice but according to my classmates who are GMA fantaserye fans they all turn out to be crap in the end.
As for Zaido, I have to say that I was able to make "mura" last night when I heard the statement that said:
"Ang SIMPLENG costume ni Shaider noon, nag iba na rin ngayon!" Or something like that.
My eyes were round and I was furious why GMA can say such blasphemous statement. And their costume designer was freakin' proud of these cartolina-looking costumes. They have the guts to say such stuff not observing it's year 2007 and you're making costumes that look like cartolina. Compare that to Shaider's costume that was made 2 decades ago! Not even close.
Oh well, that's my part. I'm not watching any of that. I just see it as some sort of rip-off. Toei should'nt have done any agreements with GMA.
And yeah, not only the show will have love scenes, it will also have LOVE TRIANGLES of sorts. Total blasphemy. I just hope Hiroshi Tsuburaya can rest in peace with his "three grandsons" making mockery of the masterpiece that is Shaider.

is it just me or does ian de leon [commander zion] look like M BISON of street fighter? and the space combat scenes look a lot like STARSHIP TROOPERS.
i am still trying to upload the zaido segments of SOP this afternoon.

so far from what i saw on youtube it looked OK except the Zaido costume. ala Robocop ika nga. And the main reason I watched the Shaider wasnt really for the story...it was his uber cool shiny (plastic/metal) armor!

i agree, what's the point in calling it a metal hero show if the costume isnt mostly shiny or metallic?
i think dennis trillo's character's name "GALLIAN" [spelling?] would've been better for the title than ZAIDO. "stellar police gallian" sounds more tokusatsu to me than zaido. and ian de leon's character is named "zion", what is it with filipino writers and their fascination with names that start with z? it reminds me of back in the 70's when they renamed the voltes v characters zardoz, zandra, zuhl, zaki, and zander.
