Last Christmas I managed to watch Avatar and it's one movie you shouldn't miss. If you can afford the 3D cinema this would be a good idea. I was in the province but luckily they already have Robinson's Cinema there which is about 40 petot cheaper than the Mandaluyong/Ortigas branches.
Avatar is so rich in everything so it's hard to explain, there's partial alien nudity with lots of booby "traps" and moons (if you know what I mean ;D). The movie is a bit environmental but does it in a way that will discourage viewers as what happened to other movies that got shot down because of this "theme".
This is just one of those movies that I can't wait for the DVD to come out (I don't have Blu-ray and those discs are way too expensive for my liking anyway)...
Where The Wild Things Are is another movie based on a children's book. I haven't read the book yet but I believe I saw one of the older animated versions. This is a bit confusing movie unless you already know the book. So watcher beware... Adults who grew up on this book will probably like it based on the reviews I read, but there's something about it that might scare a kid and make you want to take them out of the cinema... well IMHO watch The Frog Prince after this...
To Be Updated Soon...

Sherlock Holmes
Amazingly great popcorn movie. Although it doesn't give you the clues in the "reveal scenarios" in the end of the story typical of Sherlock Holmes and other detective stories, it's still a very interesting mix of action and mental deduction. Robert Downey won a Golden Globe for this movie and it shows why.

Funny PeopleStarring: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Eric Bana A very funny movie about a famous stand up comic facing a grim reality that he could die in someday because of a rare disease. Realizing his mistake in Life, Love and Relationships is the theme of the movie. Lots and lots of curse words and language you don't want kids to hear in this movie. This is a very nice treat having to endure the movies where Adam Sandler had to control the amount of comedy he can use in the family movies like Click and Bedtime Stories. It also shows the reality of life that you can only find a good friend in dire need and try to keep you in the right track when you're making an a** of yourself. And lastly, the idea that in a big city everybody needs somebody to relate with... www.myspace.com/funnypeople

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Here's my two cents for this movie...
Good popcorn movie so I'll give it 2.5 / 5
But as I wasn't able to watch Avatar in 3D because of conflicts in schedules... I wouldn't be watching this movie in 3D anyway anyhow even if I have free tickets. Why? It's good enough as a CG movie but I don't see the 3D effect making more enough difference to make me enjoy the movie even more.
It's basically a story about a father and son relationship that had gone awry when the mother died and they don't have anything in common to bridge the gap. The son likes to invent stuff which led us to the premise of the movie, he invented something that went haywire. To cut to the chase, he got the girl, he got his father back and he saved the world...
Not much for a CG animated movie which only tries to capture a few 3D curious movie buffs. The story was shallow and there's not much 3D scene which could you could enjoy. I think Ice Age 3 has more 3D moments than this one.
And the book probably tells the story even better...

Tooth FairyA hearty warming family movie with lots of laughs and positive reinforcement messages. Starmall EDSA should really reschedule their shows at times when they know there will be more patrons because I saw this movie starting already with the lights on and only the audio. Percy Jackson is coming out tomorrow so I hope they don't botch it as well, better yet I'll go to a better cinema... 4/5

Alice in WonderlandNot based on any of the Alice books but instead a re-imagining of the stories when Alice turned 19 and stumbled into Underland. If you love the books then this movie will NOT disappoint your expectations. Nuff said, I hope you already watched it... I'd like to see it in 3D but there's budget constrain... ;D Clash of the TitansWhat a great movie IMO and will not disappoint you from start to finish. On mythology based movies, Percy jackson should have looked as great as this movie. The basic storyline wasn't lost (but very loosely based on the myth) with the great action scenes, and then some. The monsters weren't have baked and Medusa was better here than what they did in Percy Jackson's movie... not Uma's fault though... What was missing however are some details like Athena's Shield and The Invisibility Helmet, probably because Perseus declared early on that he will not accept any gifts from the gods. I don't know if the 3D would look good but the Starmall cinema seem to have been refurbished enough that the whole screen is a lot clearer now BUT NEVER be the first customer on the first hour of showing because they have the tendency to start the film in the projector room and not the cinema, and the air-conditioning starts really slow... Question is, how much would their 3D cinema be in Starmall?

How To Train Your DragonWould be a great movie on 3D (as per online) reviews... but the 2D version if you don't have the budget does the job as well... The only thing new in this movie is the idea of the storyline... other than that the essence of the story is pretty basic and the idea that Viking kids talk in "American English" while the adults are Scottish... That's what happens when American makers don't care enough in the animation genre... History suggest that when the movie can make it big at the box office, the makers don't care for enough for accuracy... Hot Tub Time MachineA great escapism movie for those who have humdrum lives and want to relive and or imagine "what if?" You will enjoy this movie a lot... ;D

Ok this isn't a movie but it is a big deal. From last week's episode of Glee, I thought I was seeing things but I did confirm that it was a Jollibee store in Eagle Rock Mall in Los Angeles... it makes you kind'a proud to see a show that of all the locations in the USA, shot a scene where you have a place of affinity... If you missed it here's a clear video... the shop on the left is Jollibee... ;D Sorry it seems the video has been removed already...

The A-Team
Well you might wonder what's going on when the movies starts... well, this somehow tells the tale of how the A-Team came to be...
Although my memories of the TV series is vague I still recognize a lot of the characters and the movie is a refreshing take on the gang for those new to the title. Although I still prefer the rough and funny persona Mr. T gave on the TV series...
The story is simple but you get a lot of action for the 2 hour movie...
Next Toy Story 3 and Harry Potter Final Book Part 1...

Toy Story 3 in 3DWhen you you visit Starmall Shaw you get that poster about their 3D cinema being a different experience... well it is indeed a interesting experience. Why, you may ask? Because of a lot of reason they should have handled before making announcements of having this 3D films in the cinema when the people handling the place are not professional enough to understand you want to unwind in the movies and not get irritated by their lack of.... sorry I lost my cool there for a minute... On with the movie... Toy Story 3 in 3D Of the few 3D movies I've seen in their 2D version I was amazed at how the overall movie didn't even try to make so many "in your face" 3D scenes compared to How to Train Your Dragon... it's a 3D movie in all its glory and doesn't need to show off the technology just so you will be reminded it's not a regular movie reel. What you'll miss however are the "other" toys that make up the cast in Toy Story 1 and 2... but there real story begins when Andy packs some stuff for college... The story have the almost the same idea/plot from Toy Story 1, but that's just a part of the story, you may want to watch the rest yourself. This is Toy Story from Pixar so expect a really great storyline and all without too much crap. If you think Ken has too much scenes in the first half of the movie, wait for the rest because they won't put him there without a reason. The most surprising figure is Totoro from "My Neighbor Totoro"; who although doesn't have a speaking part, he does have a lot of screen time. I think they got him because Disney is the US distributor/partner of Studio Ghibli, the company created in part by Hayao Miyazaki The only limit I can see is the fact that the screen will still have that rectangle bordering the movie; but it's like watching live action through a giant window. The screen pops out of the background and makes the movie look closer than it should. I'm watching the movie at a good distance where my full peripheral vision fills the screen without the glasses, so watching the movie in 3D (glasses) made it "fit" in the glasses and my peripheral vision. I give the movie 4.5/5Should you want to watch a 3D movie in Starmall... I would advice not going on the 1st day 1st screening... you might get stressed how their technicians are so unprofessional (even with regular celluloid movies) when it comes to starting the movie on time. And they really need to check their audio because their sound system keeps changing from stereo to something else which will in a way irritate you coming in the first place. I already watched a movie in Cinema 3 where they have their 3D movies shown and they usually don't have audio problems... so I sure hope they work their asses off in making the movie experience a bit more enjoyable next time... specially when Transformers 3 has now been announced to be coming in 3D...

Inception
The meaning of the word is "the beginning of something", the movie title may be vague at first if you base it on the meaning of the word so it would be best to get in and watch the movie itself.
The movie stars Leonardo Di Carpio (I mean Caprio, but yeah pun intended) and Cobra Commander Joseph Gordon-Levitt...
Contrary to some written text online, Leo's character doesn't have powers to enter dream... you could say he's been sharing dreams for so long he knows his way around to find what his client asks for, which may or may not be a secret in another person's deep recesses of the mind.
The movie is like going into the matrix without having to have a giant plug stuck at the back of your head... and the ending will depend on how you perceive and understood the film through some of the boring talk scenes ever... just like the movie Shutter Island, you know what happens to his character if you listen to his dialog very carefully... no spoiler for you though this movie was a few months old before Inception...
Other than a few short boring narrative scenes; when Dom is confronted by Ariadne (Ellen Page of Juno), the rest of the movie is quite an experience. You may have thought, why can't I control my dreams? Well, in this movie you, are given those powers plus sharing a dream with others. Although you can control your dream in real life, the problem is how you can sustain it without waking up.
I know you may want to watch the Sorcerer's Apprentice, but believe me this movie will be much more interesting for the brain and the action scenes are worth every Peso.
I give this movie a 3.5 out of 5
The sad part is that Starmall has their rates gone up from 120 to 150-160 depending on the theater (1 & 2 - 150, 3 - 160) with a small bag of unflavored popcorn, free. It's not really worth the increase (the popcorn) but since it's still lower than most cinemas in Mandaluyong, then what the heck... they did improved the interior (no more icky seats) and the screens are cleaner 9and clearer) now... it's really dark inside unlike other cinemas which will surely make you eyes focus on the screens and not the neon and exit lights glowing on the sides of your peripheral vision...
Grown Ups
This is an Adam Sandler movie (one of my favorite comedy film makers/comedian)... lot's of funny scenes but I wouldn't recommend this for kids unless they have parental supervision because of some dialogs that may be too mature for their ears...
It's almost a family movie but more like a guide to family couples who needs to build their personal relationships with their partners and kids. It's the whole "what's important in a family" movie theme so get ready for the funny bonding moments scenes and laugh through the rest of the movie.
This time you may want to have a bag of popcorn and a cold soda with you, unless of course soda makes you pee often...
FYI: Kevin James is married with children to Steffiana de la Cruz, a Filipina model/actress who appeared in some of his films...
I give this movie a 3 out of 5 because Rob Schneider should have gone away with lots of his funny antics...
