Tangled
Disney and Alan Menken always makes a great combination in animated movies, great story telling combined with great music, what more could you ask for?
Dubbed as the second most expensive movie EVER made and the most expensive animated movie to date, believe me the movie is well worth the expense.
As a follower of the TV series Chuck, the main character Flynn is voiced by Zachary Levy with Mandy Moore as Rapunzel. This is not the Rapunzel you've read before because they removed the magical powers from the "witch/stepmother/whatever", the trick used by the prince to manage his way up the tower, no prince at all but a thief and a magical hair that IMO made a more convincing idea for the long and strong hair.
The scene stealers are Pascal the chameleon, Maximus the lead palace horse and the old guy in the pub. If McD is still in the Disney train I'd be jumping on the Happy Meal Bandwagon...
The movie was released last Dec. when the Philippines was in the MMFF fever, so it's not hard to understand why the BD/DVDs are coming out this March 29th.
Btw, don't buy the "DVD DVDs" I was told that those copies have some scenes reduced to WTHHT to mere speculation based on the dialog... wait for the originals and enjoy, until then watch the big screen and really enjoy the great visuals...
I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5

Gundam 00 Movie: Awakening of the Trailblazer
Yes, I had to get the subbed DVD because you all know the reason. I could only wish the original DVDs have good subs since there's a lot of goodies included in the package you will not see in the subbed copies.
The funny thing is, did you know that of all the Mobile Suits in this movie, the Qan T has the least number of downed aliens?
The main theme of the movie is "understanding" whether they are from other countries, religions, race or in this case another sentient beings... we should learn to understand each other to be able to live peacefully...
IMHO, peace cannot be achieved by understanding alone... The only obstruction to achieving real peace is our free will, to be able to do what we want has been abused by so many people... and I digress...
In the end I find the movie quite satisfying, although I was also hoping the Qan T had more fight scenes than it had but that will deviate from the main idea...
I give this movie a 4 out of 5
Gulliver's Travels
Despite the bad review on this movie, I must say I was entertained a lot without having to be dragged down by the situations revolving around the original classic story where this movie was based. This was intended to be a comedy and as it should be treated and not as serious as the book.
Jack Black never fails to entertain, although I don't really appreciate one particular movie before, and in this movie I was really hoping for more story and antics on his part of the story which was mellowed down when he was already accepted in Liliput.
I appreciated Jason Segel for giving a good rendition of his "British" accent, some actors don't do this attention to character especially in a comedy.
Don't take it seriously because this is not a classical nor an educational movie, this is comedy for you to enjoy a boring night. Enjoy.
I give this movie a 3.5 out of 5
The Fighter
A good biopic and great acting from Christian Bale. The movie felt like a documentary retelling the life of two half-brothers in the world of boxing and drug abuse...
Here's a funny trivia: Did you know that Christian Bale who plays as Mark Whalberg's older half brother is actually 2 years younger than Mark?
Must watch, but replay value is dependent on the viewer...
I give this movie a 4 out of 5
Green Hornet
As much as I like watching Seth Rogen movies, this one is not going to be one of them. They could have gone looking for a better Kato and Cameron Diaz doesn't seem to have chemistry with the rest of the characters.
A good popcorn movie to let time pass but not good enough to warrant a repeat.
I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5
Dead Space Aftermath
For those who have played the Dead Space game you already know the story behind the game and obviously how this movie went. It's basically the story after the first game involving the spaceship Ishimura.
Film Roman, the company that gave us the Garfield TV series does good in this movie. I said good because as much as I like the Animatrix idea of different art styles for telling the events based on the different characters, the CG part of the whole thing was almost like really old style... it's like they got newbies to do the CG work...
This is not for kids to watch due to the nature of gore, sexual content and foul language.
I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5
Yogi Bear
A very long version that would take the animated series a mere 20-22 minutes.
I like Booboo in this movie, but not Yogi... something about him that makes me apprehensive in liking him in this version. Ranger Smith and the rest of the "humans" don't seem to fit in... it seems they are not really into acting with characters that are not there during filming.
Lots of old jokes and 3Ding scenes... but still it's a nice popcorn movie for the weekend...
I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5

Battle Los Angeles
If you're craving war movies you may want to catch this movie while it's available in cinemas.
Some dialogs are corny and cheesy as they are trying to get the dramatic essence out of you, but fail. It's like Independence Day with ground assault and less air combat, but with cheesier talk sequences.
With nothing good in cinemas, IMO, why not watch this and enjoy you won't regret the 150 petot ticket in Star Mall Mandaluyong with free popcorn (although any beverage, even water, is expensive).
I give this movie a 3 out of 5

Limitless
The No. 1 movie in America as of date of this post. And watching it will show you how much people like escapism and the "if only it were true" stories. It's like Matrix without the computers but with your brain in hyperdrive.
Wouldn't it be a dream to have a pill that ill solve all your problems in focusing on a task at hand or whatever you want done right? I know I do... and a lot of people does too.
The story is simple but new to moviegoers, a man discovers something that improved his life but didn't know how to use it wisely as he's "high" on the new experiences he can get into. He makes mistakes along the way during his "down time" which eventually became a problem.
If there is a drug like this, I'll jump in the bandwagon...
The sad part is not enough "ehem" scenes with the ladies for some suggestive parts of the film...
I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Premiere at SM MOA IMAX. WB went all out for this final installment. The 3D effects are top notch. The story though compressed for my liking is still well written and true-to-the-book - I guess its understandable or the film may go on for 4 hrs (its already more than 2hrs). The director's interpretation is excellent. I especially loved the final battle scene - very climactic. Truly a well executed film worthy of ending the HP movie franchise.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Advance Screening on 02 August 2011/Tuesday SM Megamall. Unlike the first Planet of the Apes movie where the apes are played by costumed actors, the apes here are all CG. However, the special effects are fluid and the apes' facial expressions believable. I even heard someone say the "Ceasar" ape character should get nominated for an Oscar. I'm a fan of prequel films and this one certainly does not disappoint. The story is well written and aptly paced, an entertaining film overall.

GANTZ 2011
Watching the movie reminds me of the manga and anime, but with Part 2: The Perfect Answer not available (must go to GH to ask around) in DDL you'll eventually be excited in anticipation to watch for it...

Puss In Boots
This is a Shrek version of story and not to be confused with the original Puss In Boots fairy tale.
Having said that, this movie is a must see. I'm 100% sure the kids and kids at heart will enjoy watching this movie and unlike the first Shrek movies you don't have to cover their ears for those mature jokes. [/quote] Here's a funny parody video of Paranormal Activity... if you've seen the first PA movie you'll know where this joke is: "okay now remain motionless for the next 3 hours" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 advance screening 17 November 2011 at G4. In the tradition of the previous Twilight films, Breaking Dawn Part 1 is still complete with a lot of Edward/Bella close up shots, cheesy dialogues, shirtless Jacob, Wolf - Vampire brawls and surprisingly enough an interesting, entertaining and true to book interpretation. Take note of a secret scene after the initial credits...I actually missed this and only heard it outside the cinema.

Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
For those who were waiting to get a good look at this movie you won't be disappointed much. Just don't get your hopes up of feeling the adventures of Tintin as you did in the books and the Nelvana animation.
I don't remember much details from the 2 1/2 books this movie is based upon The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and the first few parts of the Red Rackham's Treasure, but it is a good primer for those who don't know the characters. I would suggest grabbing a copy of the books or a DVD of the animated series as there are some parts of the movie that are obviously not translated from the books. The Nelvana animated series is practically a conversion of the printed material but it will fill you in on what the world of Tintin really is.
For those who loved reading and watching the animated series, this movie will either be a good or bad experience depending on your acceptance of the movie making limitations. For a movie comprised of 2 1/2 books, this sure is rather short at 1:47 mins including opening and a very long closing credits typical of CG Animations. Since this was marketed as a 3D movie you may want to opt for that but then again the length of the movie is bothersome. Obviously Dreamworks made use of 3D by means of over doing some screen shots to make you react to the movie while watching with those glasses. Again because of the length of the movie, I decided to go for the 2D experience also because the timing wasn't in my favor.
For those who know Tintin, the amount of action they placed in the movie was overwhelming to the eyes, thus having to watch all those details in 3D would mean you don't get to enjoy and absorb too much of the rich scenery behind the action, although the 2D experience is good enough to know the amount of work they did to make the series come to life.
Mind you this is not an accurate conversion of the books (unlike the Nelvana TV series), because all threee books I mentioned above are spliced into 1 to create a plausible storyline which connects the books. The Crab with the Golden Claws is about Cap't. Haddock's ship being taken over by heroin smugglers. The Secret of the Unicorn is the main source of the movie but much of it's plot has changed. Red Rackham's Treasure is referenced when Tintin and Haddock deciphered the secret of the parchments. And FYI, Sakharine is originally just an enthusiast so that's one difference from the books...
I liked the Nelvana intro music over the movie intro... and for the voices I would have liked it better if Capt. Haddock's voice was a more convincing seaman (check out Haddock's voice in the animated version). Don't focus too much on what the protagonist is doing because a lot of funny moments are seen in the background as well.
Overall I'd give this a 3 out of 5. An iconic character fleshed out should have more appeal than being able to do stunts and not what he's mainly known for, an investigative journalist.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Red Carpet Premiere at SM Mall of Asia IMAX on 13 December 2011. The best MI movie to date. The special effects are awesome. The non-stop action and stunt scenes are top notch - there's no dull moment. If you ever have to leave the cinema to rush to the restroom, you'll be missing a lot. The scenes are breathtaking. I suppose since the movie was intentionally filmed in IMAX, seeing it in IMAX does add that extra "ump." The story is intriguing. The premise of teaming an expert Ethan Hunt with a relatively novice bunch worked very well for the movie. The scriptwriter did an excellent job of weaving MI4 into the MI universe continuity and giving each character balanced screen time. Aside from the hard action, this MI has a lot of funny moments c/o Simon Pegg who, most believe, almost stole the show from Tom Cruise. Speaking of Tom, those who had doubts whether he can do another MI action flick, well let's just say he can and should definitely do an MI5! MI4 is a must-see!

What Gevaudan said - It's a must see.
Sherlock Holmes - A Game of Shadows - could also have been a nice 3D movie to watch...
Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol - a little too "predictable" to have a sand storm come during the chase scene and end it with the storm clearing... but yeah it is a must see.
Next: Darkest Hour - lots of bad review but who knows...
